Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph McCarthy, 21, of Apache, Ariz., hands candy out to Iraqi children who approached him at a military checkpoint west of Fallujah, Iraq, April 22, 2004. McCarthy died Sept. 6, 2004 from injuries received due to enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. His personal awards include the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the National Defense Service Medal.
A damn shame. Thankfully we have such good men.
May his memory be Eternal... in ours, and in those children he sacrificed his life to provide a bright future.
What a beautiful young man. May God hold you in the palm of his hand Joseph. The world is a better place because of you.
May God have mercy on those that cannot understand sacrifices made on their behalf.
May he rest in peace.
Semper Fidelis
May God bless Marine Lance Cpl. Joseph McCarthy and those who loved him.
God blessed us with this fine young man. May God bless his family and comfort them in their loss.
Thanks for the ping Samwise. It always hurts to lose one of our own.
Heartbreaking. Seven Marines lost, all 22 or younger. But by the grace of God it could have been my son who is in the area. President Bush: Unleash the Marines or bring them home.
Damn. God Bless this marine. This heores are the best we got, I wish we didn't have to lose so many of the best we got.
How sad.
Prayers to the family and loved ones.

Never apologize for calling someone a soldier. I'm sure even this fine Marine would understand.
