I think Drudge is off the target with this one. What bill would have banned over-and-under shotguns? It looks like that's what he's shooting. It is the penultimate "sporting arm", used for hunting birds and shooting skeet. Fancy examples are still made even in countries like England where most gun ownership is banned. This is the one gun that rich liberal gun banners are always pictured with.
The bill would have banned all pistol grips.
But the pics don't show me that the shotgun has a pistol grip.
Would like to see more info.
Look at the pictures again. He has two different shotguns in those pics. The one being talked about is the semi, not the over-under.
I don't think Drudge has the latest photo to go along with the story.
"I think Drudge is off the target with this one."
He is off for sure. A "Pistol Grip" shotgun is one where you saw the stock off only leaving the pistol grip or comes with just the pistol grip - as I understood the bill. It is already against the law to saw the barrel off.
I also do not think you would consider an over under as an automatic.
Look again. He is shown holding two different guns in the four photos.
In the two on the left he has a semi-auto shotgun. In the two on the right he has an over-under shotgun. Probably one of the $50,000 models--he is a true man of the people.
In the two pictures on the LEFT, he is holding a 12 ga. semi-automatic shotgun. In the other pictures, he's holding an over/under. There is a difference. Regardless, the man is an idiot and should get out of politics and go snow-boarding in Idaho.
Second to the last? Which sporting arm is the last?
The gun he is handling wearing the blue shirt doesn't look like an "over & under" to me. What am I missing?
you got it. the shotguns he is holding are not "pistol grip" they are standard semi-auto and over under. drudge is wrong
Drudge is on target. The gun given to Kerry is a semiautomatic shotgun with a pistol grip, a type of gun that would have been banned.
Kerry poses with an O/U, the gun he was presented was an auto!
I remember this bill. Drudge is right. It defined a pistol grip as any grip that protruded downward for your rear hand to grab onto. (that is not the correct wording but it is what the bill would have done) And it would have outlawed just about every shoulderable weapon.
This is an accurate and fair hit on Kerry.
The right shots appear to be an OU type but the left shots look to be with a Model 1100 style. no pistol grip though...
Looks like a trustworthy opinion is needed here? Is this sporting arm or pistol grip?
No he's right. The wording of the the Bill Kerry sponsered would have banned any semi-auto with a "pistol grip" as defined as "The term 'pistol grip' means a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip."]
The intent was to plug the "pistol-grip loophole" and ban all guns with stocks that would like real pistol grips "facilitates firing from the hip, allowing the shooter to spray-fire the weapon. " (Yeah I know, but take it up with Sarah Brady, It's her theory), not just real pistol-grips.
From the way Kerry is grasping the stock it's a "pistol grip" within the meaning of the Act.
