Kerry Feeling Clinton's Pain

Ex-president Bill Clinton's Labor Day quadruple heart bypass surgery is expected to take just four or five hours, but Democrats fear a lengthy recuperation period could leave the party's top campaigner and fundraiser sidelined until the election is over.

"Even if everything goes well with Clinton's surgery, he's going to be out of commission for months," a leading New York Democrat told the New York Post, just hours before the operation began. "Clinton could have really helped get the campaign focused on domestic issues," he lamented, "but not any more."

Presidential nominee John Kerry, who no doubt feels Mr. Clinton's pain most acutely, reportedly had a 90 minute telephone conversation with the ex-prez on Sunday, where the two talked over possible remedies for his flagging campaign.

In 2000, Democrats blamed Al Gore's loss on his decision not to campaign side-by-side with Clinton, a blunder Sen. Kerry had vowed not to repeat.

But it's not clear whether Clinton will recover in time to make any appearances with the presidential hopeful before voters cast their ballots.

Another big loser as a result of Clinton's heart problems - his publisher Knopf. The gregarious Democrat was expected to headline dozens of additional book-sigings during the balance of the campaign to help recoup his record $12 million advance.

But if Clinton stays MIA till November, Knopf may lose out on hundreds of thousands of additional book sales - and insiders are said to be worried that any remaining interest in the presidential tome will have faded after the election.

Sure, Clinton will be well for the election, if all goes well with his surgery he will be up and at it in 4 -6 weeks.. plenty of time to play a victim of some sort, and tout their great health care, and wishing every American could have the same..

Kerry could make his campaign slogan "Win one for the zipper."

That's bullsh*t. I know people who have had quadruple bypass surgery who were out of the hospital in less than a week and back at work within two weeks. And I'm talking about painters, contractors, etc.

Obviously Clinton, the DNC and Big Media will milk this for all it's worth. It took him almost 6 months to recover from a twisted knee. This will get nauseous (noxious?).

I like the way that Kerry's campaign and the Democratic party flaks are spinning the idea of the "90 minute call from his hospital bed" in which Clinton imparted knowledge (de-emphasize Vietnam). Presumably this story is being spread with Kerry's understanding/acceptance/tacit approval. But - what does it mean when a guy can make such a strategic blunder in running a political campaign? I'm sure he wants to blame it on Mary Beth Cahill at some point - but that only implicates the stupidity of choosing your campaign staff from Ted Kennedy's bull pen. Kerry is in a world of hurt - which he constructed.

Now that a lot of Clinton aides are on board with the Kerry campaign, just think how easy it becomes to replace him with Hitlery in October (surprise) when Kerry has to step down because of his actions after Vietnam. BTW, Hitlery is registered with the FEC as a Presidential candidate for 2003.

Possible Remedy #4 - Playing the Carnahan/Wellstone card.

I mean is this IT? Will they just roll over and leave quietly? Or is there something else in the sleeve....

This is nonsense. First they complain that clinton is sucking all of the air out of Kerry's campaign because he is making too many appearances, and now they complain that he is going to wreck Kerry's campaign because he can't campaign for him.

Well, which is it? And by the way, why can't Kerry campaign for himself?

< That was a rhetorical question. >

"It took him almost 6 months to recover from a twisted knee."

We had credible evidence that that brouhaha was not over a twisted knee at all, but rather the removal of some - um - certain identifying characteristics that Paula Corbin Jones and Monica Lewinski had observed.

According to those who know such things, that type of operation would have laid X42 up in exactly that way.
