Miller's Blast May Not Endear Swing Voters, John McCain Says (Shut Up Alert!)
Houston Chronicle ^ | 9/3/04

Posted on 09/03/2004 6:18:37 AM PDT by gopwinsin04

Sen. John McCain, who has pushed for civility in this years presidential race, is warning that the biting attack on Senator John Kerry by a fellow Democrat at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night might harm President Bush's efforts to woo swing voters.

McCain said that the keynote address by Senator Zell Miller, (D-GA) could prove as controversial as a speech by Patrick J. Buchanan at the 1992 GOP Convention in Houston.

'I think it backfires,' McCain said of Miller's rhetorical assault on Kerry.

He added that 'It makes Pat Buchanan's speech..look milquetoast.'

McCain made his comments to reporters at a party he hosted after the convention's Wednesday session ended.

Former Nixon advisor Buchanan's speech--in which he declared a 'culture war' was underway in America--was thought by many Republicans to have hurt the re-election of Bush's father, then President George H.W. Bush.

Ole Backstabber Johnny is at it again.

Well atleast we ALL know who is going to cover John F'n Kerrys flank.

I'll wager a bet to anyone that cares to take it. IF by some unforseen cosmic act John F'n Kerry gets elected, Johnny McMe is asked to serve in the Kerry administration.
Probably as Sec. of Defense?

Johnny McMe only serves one person, Johnny McMe.he proved that with the Primary Smears of Bush, his actions with the Press and the bribes he accepted from Charles Keating. He is in the tank for Kerry. No doubt in my mind.

John, John, John. You don't have to answer every question reporters ask you. Especially when you know very well why they've asked you

I can't wait for Kerry to come around again, I have recorded the speech onto Tape and will be playing it
loudly when the Lemmings are lining up to see Thurtson Howell III.

Along with Kerry's testimony from 71.

Sheesh, what a convenient lapdog for the liberals who want to piss on as many flames of excitement that Zell and others got going at the Convention.

"What the heck is this guy's deal?, you asked.

The deal is, no senator can upstage McCain, without feeling McCain's egotistically charged up wrath. Seconds after Miller's speech, McCain dashed to NBC cameras and Tom Brokaw to publically disavow Zell's speech. Why would he do such a thing? BECAUSE HE COULD. But he's the only senator I know, of either party, who would do such a thing. (And why would NBC cut away from Lynn Cheney's speech to show McCain instead of her?) I mean, if Senator Bland from Podunk insist NBC pre-empt the vice president's wife so he could have a unscheduled commercial on himself, Brokaw would not have put him on the air. McCain gets special treatment.

I"m beginning to believe the pundits, that yes, McCain does intend to run for president in 2008. He's not going to let another Bush, or Guiliani, or a governor, or anyone else beat him out of it, and he's sure not going to have it look as if he agreed with Zell Miller's angry attack on John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, fellow senators. McCain's act was cravenly self-serving. He was protecting, and building his self-generated reputation as a maverick.

Have Zell retire out to Arziona and run for his seat in the primary and see who wins!

McCain is trying to set the stage for 2008. He is a moderate RINO and he doesn't want anyone to bash him when the Republican nomination process starts. He wants everyone to get along.

Once Bush wins another term, I hope Bush really blows McCain off and doesn't help him for 2008. I am afraid that Bush has already promised him some things.

This piece illustrates why McCain will never become President of the United States, representing the Republican party.

Not only does he not understand the Conservative base, he despises them, and it shows.

I like McCain, generally, and would vote for him over a dem, but he's out to lunch if he thinks this kind of bulls$!t helps him.

First of all, Zell spoke the truth that McCain has been loath to hear for a long time. I don't mind him taking members of his own party to task when it's truly deserved, but I've never heard him take the other side to task, and that says a lot.

He's not the OWNER of the Vietnam Experience, he's not the owner of the integrity of elected officials. He can suck up to the the swing voters from now until doomsday, if he can't respect the base then he can't hold the base.

Radio talk show host and author Michael Savage once said that the worst Republican is better than the best Democrat. I disagree. It's a toss-up between McCain and Arlen Specter as to who is the worst Republican, but I would take Zell Miller or Ed Koch over either of them any day.

He's milking the fact that both parties are sucking up to him -- and why they are is beyond me! When the pubbies consider him expendable (hopefully after the coming election), he will be sent out to the Rest Farm (ignore him, and his 'weight' goes away).
