Bush knocked it out of the park. And the GOP put on the show of the year. I loved it all!

With a rhetorical flourish worthy of the great speeches of all time, George W. Bush has transformed the war into a battle for liberty.

Transformed? TRANSFORMED???!!!

Has Morris been sleeping? The War on Terror has never been anything else but a war between freedom and oppression. What does he think Al Qaeda is, a bunch of blackmailers? They want to tear down the free societies of the world to establish a religious order where people submit to the government.

Bush didn't transform anything. He may have caused Morris to wake up and smell the coffee. If he made more libs do that, it was a good thing.

Shalom.

I love W. However, I thought the speech was a "C" at best as a political device. That said, it was a watershed turning in the re-establishment of liberty as THE key goal of the USA instead of "equality," and that in itself is incredible.

Contrast Bush's wonderfully crafted, splendidly delivered accepted speech last night to Kerry's rambling, petty, almost non sequitor response, like a punch-drunk fighter who's been on the losing end of far too many fights. The contrast couldn't be more stunning.

As the election draws closer and if Bush's numbers go down, Morris will blame that "awful" speech Bush gave at the convention.

**The speech satisfied every single political need. He contrasted with Kerry without appearing negative. He demonstrated emotion without pandering. He rose to a level of substantive specificity without becoming wonkish.**

Must agree with Morris here.

I will agree with Morris the speech was very bold, almost radical. Very Reaganesque in its clearly stated vision and the resultant foreign policy. Dubya definitely laid down the gauntlet.

The line Dubya has drawn in the sand leaves about half of the Democratic party standing on the wrong side. They are total cynics about the concept of freedom, they see capitalism as a pathology, and they see imperialism everywhere...they are not in for a fun ride.

I saw Dubya's speech as a rallying call to centrist Reagan-style Dems to join him under the mantle of Reagan and move forward, to join him on the American/pro-freedom side of the line. Those who recoil instinctively or choose to remain on the wrong side should prepare to be isolated politically and left behind in history. The Dem standards of multiculturalism, socialism, human rights, and pacifism are largely irrelevant or shown to be empty in the current climate.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the Chicoms meet today.

Morris wants credibility. He knows Bush is having four more years and he wants to be on the side that called it.

He demonstrated emotion without pandering.

Come on, Dick, clean out your ears. What in the hell do you call adressing the illegals in Spanish (Leave no child behind)? If that isn't pandering, then what is? When I heard that I just lost a little bit of respect for an otherwise acceptable president.

The speech worked because Bush didn't just read it, he meant it. The media and the pundits just don't know how to deal with a politician who is geniune. They really are beside themselves with frustration.

Please, all FReepers, in fact all Americans, ought to become familiar with the President's Liberty Doctrine. It is as important to the 21st century as the Monroe Doctrine was in the 19th and 20th. The best place I've seen him describe it is:

President Bush Delivers Graduation Speech at West Point

It is also incorporated in the expansive document:

The National Security Strategy of the United States of America

To: SJackson; no more apples

In the third year of Hoshea, son of Elah, king of Israel, Hezekiah, son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign.  He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abi, daughter of Zechariah.  He pleased the LORD, just as his forefather David had done.  It was he who removed the high places, shattered the pillars, and cut down the sacred poles. He smashed the bronze serpent called Nehushtan which Moses had made, because up to that time the Israelites were burning incense to it.  He put his trust in the LORD, the God of Israel; and neither before him nor after him was there anyone like him among all the kings of Judah.  Loyal to the LORD, Hezekiah never turned away from him, but observed the commandments which the LORD had given Moses.  The LORD was with him, and he prospered in all that he set out to do. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him.  He also subjugated the watchtowers and walled cities of the Philistines, all the way to Gaza and its territory. [2 Ki 18:1-8]
