Welcome to the Finest, auboy. Will keep your cousin in my prayers along with all the other Finest's family and friends who are serving now or have served. Bless all of them. Just love that purple iris..beautiful picture. Purple Iris's are special to me. My Dad, who wasn't into gardening, planted bulbs one year...all purple iris's :-)
"The military is a rigorous culture that places a high premium on battlefield accomplishment.... In a sense, there's nothing that says more about your career than when you fought, where you fought and how you fought.... If you wind up being less than what youre pretending to be, there is a major confrontation with value and self-esteem and your sense of how others view you.... When you are the chief of them all, it has to weigh even more heavily. -- John F. Kerry, who received both a Silver Star and a Bronze Star with "V" pins for valor, as quoted by the Boston Herald, May 18, 1996
Dearest Deadhead, thank you for asking, but my son is safe in California. He owns a home and a sailboat in Melbourne Beach right in the path of Frances. But sailboats and houses can be replaced.
I can't take any credit for him having never voted for him. Would vote for him next time if there was one...he's retiring in January.
Circling the field after viewing the Convention, and would you believe what I found this week, JuanHernando, right in Madison Square Garden??
I mean, it was volley after volley fired from the right (of course) and the left and the back and the front, but especially from the podium - -
I shall sleep well this night. He did not lie..:))
Kevin is in an area of West Palm Beach named LakeWorth. He didn't get hurricane shutters for his two-story house, and they will leave it and go either to his wife's parents' home on Biscayne Bay, if it comes in above there - or to her office building.
Susan is an attorney for the State of Florida on environmental issues, and their office was designed to withstand just about anything other than a tornado.
Mr.Owl, I moved from Coral Gables, Florida to Melbourne at age 9 1/2, until 18 - was there again for 4 years - returned to Port Malabar (Palm Bay) for 3 - then later lived in Ft. Pierce and Panama City.
Melbourne Beach used to be quite deserted below the few blocks of the town, with plenty of parking spots..:))
Have you seen in Melbourne on New Haven Avenue the three buildings converted into the Henegar Arts Center?
It was named for my 9th grade algebra teacher and later high school principal, Ruth Henegar.
The center building used to be our grades 1 through 6 - the east one 7 through 12 - the west one the cafeteria, band room and storage.
It served *ALL* children from the Sebastian River to halfway to Cocoa - and west to the St. John's River!
Not only is this hurricane twice the size of Charley, but according to the Weather Channel twice that of Andrew - the size of TEXAS....
It will indeed be devastating, moving at slow speeds...
Praying we all will be spared harm - - -
Wasn't our President wonderful tonight! He got very emotional at the end - gotta love him for that soft heart, and equally strong will and determination.

Thank you very, very much for the compliments, my friends -- I'm honored and humbled.

I love Melbourne. I even thought about retiring there, but we decided to stay put with our friends and grandkids. Hopefully, Frances will be kind.
Thank you deadhead. Bless your Dad for his service. I love your tribute to him on your profile page. What a good looking man.
Purple Iris's are also my favorites. I am blessed to have a neighbor who has not just a green thumb, he has two of them.
I am grateful for your prayers for my cousin. We owe a tremendous debt to all those who have earned and are protecting our freedom.
We need to get you a part time position with assistance in presidential speech writing don't we? I hope you have a nice weekend John & prayers to all in path of hurricane.. their safety & peace in this storm.
Thank You for your kind words. I checked out your profile page. Love the quote you have there, "The Older I get....."
I agree 100% with your sentiments. Cute pup on your page, we at the finest love our animals.
Absolutely, Temple Owl! Safety for ones self and loved ones first. Will never understand how some folks stay and not take the advice to evacuate.
