August 31, 2004 -- EXCLUSIVEVietnam veterans against John Kerry today are launching a new TV ad that shows the Democrat renouncing his war medals timed to zing Kerry just before he speaks to vets tomorrow at the American Legion convention.
It's the latest move to undermine Kerry by the group known as Swift Boat Veterans for Truth efforts that appear to have sent him slipping in polls and have sparked rumors of a Kerry campaign shakeup.
The ad starts with video of marching Marines and paints Kerry who became an anti-war activist when he came home from Vietnam as one of those who "turned their backs on their brothers."
It shows a long-haired and bearded hippie-type in a military jacket not Kerry appearing to toss his military medals as Kerry and many other anti-war vets did at protest rallies in the early 1970s.

Straight ticket voting is not allowed anymore in Illinois.
So the voter will have to pick out names. If no candidate is associated then many will wonder if the ex-candidate's name next to an elector means that a vote would not go to another unnamed candidate. It would be very confusing for many of the dim bulbs who normally vote RAT. Just explaining "elector" will cause a large percentage to space out.
Widder Carahan was not on the ballot. Her late husband was. She was never elected. Her husband's corpse was. Plus there was massive fraud in St. Louis. Which could NEVER happen again since the eagle eyes from the UN will be observing. :^)
I know. And in this election, Kerry's name will be next to "Which party do you want to choose, for the Offices of President and Vice President"? Hence, no (well, not much) confusion even if he is no longer available, for whatever reason (health, nervous breakdown, scandal, etc.). No need to explain "elector," tell the voter to vote for Kerry. It worked for Carnahan.
Anyway, the only point I wanted to make, and I think you agree, was that ballot deadlines are not an impediment to Kerry becoming unavailable, and the DEM party putting somebody else in his place.
It's easy to toss something away when you haven't really earned them. They mean nothing when they symbolize mundane actions and tiny wounds.
I don't buy the Hillary to the Rescue Scenario so beloved here either. She understands it would be like lying down in front of a Mac Truck with no brakes.
