Israel informed U.S. that, in order to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, she plans to bomb Busheher Nuclear Power Plant, under construction in Iran, if Russian-supplied fuel rods are put into its reactor(s.) The fuel rods are now at a Russian port, which are to be shipped in the first half of next year. 24 years ago, Israel's squadron of (F-15's and) F-16's bombed Iraq's Osirak Reactor which was being constructed using French technology, stopping Iraq's nuclear weapon's program on its track. /end my translationIsrael To Bomb A Iran's Nuclear Power Plant
Looking to the past as an indication of what might happen now, what was the fallout from Israel taking out Iraq's facility? Did everybody run to the UN and whine and cry? Iran is deathly afraid of us at this point. The "cowboy" from Texas has a reputation of being too quick with a gun.
As far as I know Iran doesn't have a big brother to hide behind. Allah seems to have left the building if you catch my drift. The fundamentalists no matter how thick the calluses on their foreheads seem to be batting zero at the prayer thing. I suspect there's a huge untapped market for anti-depressants in some of those countries.
so far we've racked up Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq with the exception of a few insurgents that have been over exposed by the press. Do you believe the mullahs in Iran haven't noticed?
That was Iraq, this is Iran. Big difference.
I don't think you can look to the past on this one.
Sure Iranian regime is afraid. They also have been busy signing alliances with all their neighbors in case any of them are attacked.
Aside from this, you miss the impact that it may have on the Iranian people. Right now, the majority are pro-U.S.. It would be a great advantage to keep them that way.
I think anything that weakens the mullahs, strengthens the dissidents in Iran. I also believe Iranians are much more cosmopolitan thn most realize. Why do you need a nuclear reactor when you're sitting on that much oil? You certainly don't need it to generate power.
We're dealing with people who gave teenagers plastic "keys to paradise" and sent them out to clear minefields during the war with Iraq. These people will use nuclear weapons if they are ever allowed to develop them.
This is a threat to the very existance of Israel and as such there really is no rational case for the US to try to stop them from flying over Iraq to get at the nuclear reactor. If the Iranians did launch a nuclear weapon at Israel it is probable that they would also hit Iraq to try to kill as many Americans as possible. This would lead directly to Israeli nuclear retaliation against Iran and aside from the horrible civilian death toll there would be serious problems for the world oil supply. Do we really want to pay $10 a gallon for gas?
The solution to this problem is to let the Israelis hit them hard and hope that their impotence in the face of a Israeli attack will weaken the Iranian leadership. With any luck it could cause the government to fall.
"anything that weakens the mullahs, strengthens the dissidents in Iran"
Yes, for the most part. But in this case, acquiring nuclear power is also becoming a point of pride for Iranians. No, they don't need it for energy and the people don't really care about the weapons factor, but it gives them something to be proud of. And unfortunately, gives the regime one more way to rally the patriotism of the people.
I think I'm aware who we're dealing with.
We must stop regime from acquiring nukes. No arguement from me. The trick is ...how? If Bush can support the people in Iran to help them overthrow the mullahs (as he's said before), then the nukes don't pose a problem.
I don't think an Israeli attack is the solution right now.
Look, I do not like the Mullahs and their possible secret projects but as an Iranian, I am sure we need Nuclear energy to produce Electricity.
our Oil & Gas will be finished soon and we can sell it to promote Iran.
We should not let this expensive material being burnt for electricity.
I want nuclear energy for electricity and we started this project in 1970s during the Shah, so I hope we finish it soon.
This is mere lie... those brave poor teenagers did it voluntary to defend Iran.
The solution is not BOMBING!
AH Tiger it been report on Israelis news wire
It known fact that that might be October suprise by Israel lay smackdown on Iran
It was reported in Israel? Hmmm, so the story is credible indeed.:)
It been report on Sunday UK Papers too
And I read on Bill Gertz Inside the Ring column
It like open secret on the net that Israel may plan Iranian smackdown very soon
Regardless of any potential backlash from the U.N. (who cares?) or Iran, there is no way Israel can let Iran develop nuclear weapons. Sooner or later Iranian nukes would mean the end of Israel. Once the reactor gets closer to going online it's toast, IMO.
Subtle as a sledge hammer. Go Israel!
That all depends. From our perspective, what if Al Sadar is shown to be a paid tool of the Iranian Mullahs and it's proven that Iranian "fighters" are taking part in actions in Iraq? From Israel's perspective, they really don't care that much about Iran, although they were quasi allied with them before the Ayatollah's took over, but they do care about their national survivial. Israel is a small country, it would't take many nukes to wipe it completely off the map. Thus the risk may be too high for them to take to let the Angry Ayatollahs get nuke warheads for their missles and just hope that their anti missles can stop them all.
OK. No So what's the problem?
Actually an attack with precision guided munitions might be the "least bad" of all possible solutions. Especially if the alternative is to wait until the Ayatollah's get nuclear tips for their ballistic missles and attack Israel, becasue they don't know what else to do. Then Israel would retaliate in kind, and they already have nuclear tips for their missles which can already reach Iran. The only advantage in waiting is in hope the Persians will throw out the Angry Ayatollahs and mad Mullahs. But the risk is very large, for the Iranians as well the Israelies.
