There must be some sort of a bug going around the Kerry campaign. Kerry claims that Richard Nixon sent him into Cambodia in 1968 a month before Nixon took office in 1969. Now Barnes claims he used the Lieutenant Governor's office in 1968 to give Bush a favor some six months before he was elected to that office in November! Call it "retroactive recollections"

I also strongly suspect that the reporter knew all of this when he opted to replace Barnes' lie with ellipses.

No bug. It's the way gangsters operate.

Also in that Houston unit IN SAFE, CUSHY, GROUND JOBS were sons of DEMOCRAT politicians Lloyd Bentsen and John Connoly, and other Dems. Texas in 1968 was an overwhelmingly Democrat state.

Barnes was also much more recently "neck deep" in a scandle involving the firms used to run the Texas state lottery!!!!

Was Barnes even Speaker of the Texas House in 1967 or 1968? My understanding is that he was either ambassador to NATO (1967) or the U.N. in Geneva (1968), and may not have even been in the country.

Is that correct?

In TX, Speaker of the House and LT Governor are almost the same job, just different houses of the legislature. It's possible he may be suffering from old age memory.

Sharpstown was great in 1971, but now it is 'da HOOD'.

I can say that as I grew up there. :-)

Ben Barnes isn't fit to shine G.W's shoes! He's a corrupt, dyed in-the-wool Demonrat and doesn't deserve any hint of legitimacy!

Why would a partisan Democrat give the son of a failed Republican Congressional candidate a break anyway, this is a joke.

Now we are supposed to not believe 254 vietnam vets, many of them career military. Admirals, commanders, lt colonels, etc. But a formerly disgraced house speaker that is not mentioned in the article we are supposed to believe.
