Kerry was commissioned USNR from Newport.
I'm trying to figure out if he was USNR when he went to Paris and talked with the VC and DRVN, and when he testified before the Fulbright committee. There's some stuff on the 'net (for example
Lt. John Kerry as a Ready Reservist), but it's not clear to me.
I expect this timeline to be in an upcoming Swiftees' ad.

I seem to recall that he was "Navy Reserve, Inactive" between 1970 and 1972. Then went active in Reserves and was discharged in '78. It's been a while since I looked at the documents, though.
(Chieftain, can you answer this question?)

Of course he was still "USNR" when he negotiated with the North Vietnamese in Paris while our prisoners were still being held. (Still held prisoner, in part, BECAUSE OF the protests against the war led by Kerry )....
That status (Inactive reserve) was not not released until July 1978.

(I can only donate monthly, but Kerry's ABBCNNBCBS continue to lie every day!))
