As I recall it was the same here during the wildfires last year in San Diego. The Red Cross took money and then didn't pay it back out and every firefighter said that the Red Cross charged through the nose for water or anything else that was needed while the Salvation Army exhausted themselves doing every thing they could for free.

You think that's a lie?

Give me one reason that I would lie about something like that. Do you think you are important enough to me to cause me to sit down and write a lie?

No, every single word of that is true. Every word.

I can't believe you called me a liar. You've got a lot of nerve.

You must work for the Red Cross.

I am thrilled to find out that you donated to the Salvation Army.

They were so great with us after the flood. I will love them forever!

Perhaps lie was too strong an admonition.

You are more like John Kerry and his Christmas in Cambodia. Like the Christmas in Cambodia seared into his mind that never happened, the Red Cross consession selling $2.00 cokes is also fantasy.

We used to donate blood until the Red Cross put in the Mad Cow provision for people who'd spent a certain amount of time in Europe during the specified time period. We told the RC the next time they called to ask us to donate that we could no longer do so per the new provision. We continued to receive calls from them to donate for months afterwards. We kept telling them we could no longer do it. One person with the RC we spoke to suggested we donate anyway, that the Mad Cow rule was no big deal. We gave her a piece of our mind and we haven't heard back from the Red Cross since.

I used to donate blood as often as I could, starting when I was 17. Then they passed this rule. It said anyone who had spent more than 6 months cumulative anywhere in Europe since 1980 was ineligible. Since my family is from Demark and we used to travel every year, I was well over that limit.

The rumor I heard was that the rule was designed to eliminate a large body of donors to create an artificial blood shortage. Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

And while we're at it, anyone know another way to donate blood?

How do you know that? Were you there when it happened?

Every word is true. How dare you accuse someone you don't know of lying?

How dare you compare me to Kerry.

Why are you doing this?

A news article? This was my own personal experience with the Red Cross.

My husband suggested a contribtion to the ARC for Hurricane Charley relief. I told him it was a lovely thought, but make the check payable to the Salvation Army.

How would you know? Were you there during the flood? The Red Cross is known for not exactly being a "non-profit" organization. Sorry, Elizabeth.

John Kerry would have gone to prison if he had been in Cambodia when he said.

Oh. Well, I guess we just have to believe it happened although it would be nice if there were some small amount of evidence.

What sort of evidence do you want? That the flood occurred?

That I lost my home AND business in it?

Or that the RC charged us 2.00 for a coke?

I was a little too busy to read the papers that month and save any articles on the off chance an idiot would question me about it 8 years later.

Sorry you think I am a liar. That however is your problem.

NOT MINE.

"my home was totally underwater for 3 days following a flood"

I am sympathetic for your disastrous loss.

I would like to learn a little more about the circumstances. "Totally under water"....... does that mean the water completely covered the roof?

Or does that mean the water flooded  the yard and surrounded the house.

Does it mean that the rising flood entered the house and covered the floors?

How high did the water rise within the house?
