I think Bob Dole is still a hero for speaking out yesterday. HE ROCKS!!!!!!!!
bttt
Dole knows better.
In a 1988 campaign-trail autobiography, here's how Dole described the incident that earned him his first Purple Heart: "As we approached the enemy, there was a brief exchange of gunfire. I took a grenade in hand, pulled the pin, and tossed it in the direction of the farmhouse. It wasn't a very good pitch (remember, I was used to catching passes, not throwing them). In the darkness, the grenade must have struck a tree and bounced off. It exploded nearby, sending a sliver of metal into my leg--the sort of injury the Army patched up with Mercurochrome and a Purple Heart."
The fact that Bob Dole is the absolute definition of a mild and agreeable temperment makes his statements have that much more power. He is not known for emotional responses and hyperbole. He gives people the benefit of the doubt even when they do not deserve it. He is what most people call a very nice guy. That made him a political sucker at times. He never wanted to believe the worst even when he probably should have. (My take on everything.) So he has earned the right to be taken seriously on this subject. The left will not easily smear him since they have so often used and manipulated his nice guy ways to their advantage.
I am one of the few people who really likes Bob Dole. I remember him during the first Clinton election, taking on Clinton and the Democrats, making stunning statements in his matter of fact way. Then Newtie took over as the Republican top dog in the legislature and no one paid any attention to Dole.
