What's seared is Brinkley's credibility as a historian.

Hey, you can't sear things in your brain overnight. They need to allow for some searing time.

Takes time to sacronize so many lies, you know. The fairy tale will soon emerge, and we'll go on a find the BS mission. Won't be hard to do.

Maybe the article is going to appear in the New Yorker's Cambodian edition.

Maybe the New Yorker editors aren't quite ready to commit professional suicide. Brinkley has to have something verifiable on the Cambodia business. If he's going to back off on that then he has to have something verifiable on at least one of the medal stories. This thing has gotten past the point where he can just blow smoke and make everyone happy.

You can imagine the conversation between him & Kerry, "I already covered for you once, now where's the evidence that you were in Cambodia in January?"

Thank you for your letter to the
Washington Post.
The next poster has it right. Douglas Brinkley is a biased historian. On the other hand, it is bad for any historian to put in print any statement that can be proven to be false. Witness the anti-gun historian from Vanderbilt who lost both his reputation and position for such a fault.
And Binkley would have to be deaf, dumb, blind and stupid not to realize that every word he writes about Kerry and Cambodia will be gone over with a fine-toothed comb. Kerry may want Brinkley to write a CYA article in the New Yorker, but Brinkley may not want to throw his career in the dumper for the benefit of Kerry.
It is always wise to backtrack when any politician backtracks. What are the real reasons, not the stated reasons, for such an action?

Doug Brinkley has tainted his credibiliy by joining JFKerry's "Band of Brothers".
Won't make much difference what he writes from this point forward, he wrote a supposed "history" book and only used the vast journals, and films already created by JFKerry for his supposed "Presidential Library" in the making.

The wheels are starting to come off. Kerry didn't show up on Georgie's show this morning, either. Sent his kids out instead.

They need to go over every printed thing kerry has said since then to make sure this doesnt happen again. Thats what is taking so long. The fact they are spending so much time on this is very telling. To which I say to Kerry; "Release the records, boob, and all of this will go away! The records will bear you out, right, Mr. Kerry? They will, wont they? You wouldnt lie about your hero status, would you, Mr Kerry......?"

It would be a difficult authoring task--to reconcile some 50 previous statements by Kerry about his Christmas in Cambodia 1968, while Nixon [who wasn't sworn in until January 20, 1969] is sending secret troops to Cambodia.
Nixon sending troops to Cambodia was the reason for the Christmas in Cambodia anyway. Kerry was trying to discredit Nixon.
Brinkley's task is to decide which of the lies is the one to perpetuate now.
Christmas in Cambodia 1968? A lie?
Nixon sent troops in 1968? A lie!
Christmas near Cambodia 1968? Nope, that negates the charge against Nixon sending troops into Cambodia.
If there were only some way to say that Nixon was secretly sworn in just after the November 1968 election, rather than on January 20, 1969, that would resolve the whole lie.
Trying to move the 'in Cambodia' to January shows up the December claim, which Kerry repeated dozens of times.
Now, where does the CIA covert operations fit in?
lol.

The difficulty in lying now is that whatever pathetic cover they attempt now is going to be scrutinized by 250 witnesses who were there. The Band of Traitors is being stretched real tight!!

Do you think Brinkley would jump ship at this point in order to save his own skin ..??
I mean .. I think this constant rewrite is making Brinkley look very bad .. even though the information he was given may have been tainted. Isn't an historians job to interview and then find the TRUTH. Evidently, Brinkley didn't bother with the opinions of anyone else.
