Anyone want to wager that the Kerry camp will question the fact that this major storm
just happened to hit a battleground state run by the Presiden't brother, giving both a chance to boost their profile and stature in the state via effectively managing this disaster?
LOL. Idiot Dems.
Sorry to inject politics into this unfortunate incident, but, hey, sure sound and steady executive leadership by both Bush brothers can have an impact come November.

My sons riding it out in St. Pete also. He ignored a mandatory evacuation notice from his apartment complex. He thinks he's safe because he's on the 3rd floor.

Finally the Ft. Myers guys are talking about Naples. The radar had shown for a long time a band of wind just as intense as the eye barreling in on Naples.

I agree.
If you're surfing now, you are not adventurous. You're an idiot.

Thanks for the well wishes. Our house was built after Andrew (1992), so it complies with the interim hurricand building code. Sometime after 1994 the state adopted an even more stringent code. We semi-comply with that because we added hurricane shutters upstaris and removable storm panels downstairs.
Our local emergency management guru says that the single biggest danger to life comes from the yeah-hoos who go out too early after the storm, find themselves in high water, and drown. Not a chance with me!

I can't believe my observation of last night that the storm was going more straight north than slightly northwest like it was supposed to be doing, which would mean it would hit further south than predicted, actually came true.
I pray that the people on Sanibel, Fort Myers etc. are ready and got out in time.
Because it is going WAY WAY WAY further south than it was supposed to have done.

The storm surge pics are incredible. They interviewed the guy on channel 7

"I'm in Mobile, absolutely beautiful day for August." Not unusual at all. An active storm in the Gulf tends to "suck in" warm air/moisture from around the region.
This is why a storm could be ravaging, say, the central Texas coast yet central Louisiana be bright and sunny.
