That is always useless info for them to broadcast. What it does is get the listeners to think that "Oh its getting better" when in reality it is still one nasty beast. What stating a storm is now a Cat 2 should do is prompt one to look outside, see how nasty it is and just imagine what kind of hell a Cat 4 storm is.

Heads up! Radar from Orlando shows strong band of storm out at sea that may loop around to the South and hit West Palm Beach (Miami) later tonight.

This is a mistake on my fault -- with the storm moving at 25 MPH, this wave of storms in the Atlantic might hit anywhere from West Palm Beach on up to Melbourne.

And they may have diminshed by the time they approach the coast (this is outer most band in the Atlantic that have the brighest orange colors -- heaviest storms).

This may or may not be a problem, but a hurricane is dynamic -- it ROTATES.

Poked my head outside.

Winds appear to be sustained above 30mph. Heard a fairly large branch break while I was out there.

Power seems to have stablized for the moment.

I haven't heard if Daytona beaches were evac'd or not. They were talking about it and closing the bridges but I don't recall if they did.

I don't know if anyone has posted this but on August 18 1986 hurricane Charley hit North Carolina at Moorehead City as a catergory 1.Thought that was kind of interesting.

Leading edge of the storm now back over the Atlantic.

Eye, breaking up a little, is west of downtown Orlando, seems to be right at the Bee Line expressway.

Wifey on the phone with her sis in Lakeland right now...the worst has passed through there and they've untaped some of the windows. We were nervous (out here in Cali) about earlier in this thread having indications that the eye was over Haines City, very close to Lakeland.

I could be wrong, but I think parts of SC are overreacting a bit. Beaufort County cancelled schools today...

Lakeland was maybe 20-25 miles west of the eye, which was maybe 5-8 miles across.
