The pictures I'm seeing on CNN look pretty damn bad.
Correction: east of GA
Hurricanes can spawn tornados that are more dangerous than the Hurricane. YOU ARE NOT SAFE UNTIL ANY DANGER OF TORNADO ACTIVITY IS GONE.
Weather Service has Tornado Advisory until 9PM and it is only 8PM.
It might be unlikely that you are hit by a Tornado, but don't be like the owners of the Titanic.
The owners of the Titanic claimed that God Himself could not sink the Titanic.
From what I remember from History, that ship did not make it through its FIRST VOYAGE ACROSS THE ATLANTIC.
Wind speed in the wall of the eye is currently 100 mph.
Those winds aren't a big deal for me because we get them in thunderstorms a lot.
However, there is a big difference between my KS thunderstorms and a sustained, hurricane-force wind like Florida is experiencing. We only get that 80 mph winds for a short period of time, usually less then 5 minutes.
Oh he must be a nut. I'm in Drums PA.
I cheated a bit ... We've driven that road towarsd Ocala!
(It took us a little more than an hour to get to Silver Springs from Daytona Beach Shores last summer.)
pulling up the velocity radar to see what is up.....might help pinpoint the winds
I'm wondering if it's going to keep following 17. I'm just off 17 on the coast of GA.
We were in Ft. Myers, Port Charlotte, Pine Island, Sanibel, etc. 2 weeks ago...gives one an odd feeling.
Here's the local newspaper in Ft. Myers.
Good coverage. Check out the photo gallery.

Your counterparts in Saudi Arabia believe that 9/11 was Allah's Will.
God may eventually judge us on the character with which we handle tragedies, but I suspect he has better things to do than roll hurricanes like bowling balls at clergymen who dared to express contrary opinions. Your posts are no less offensive than an Al Qaeda member coming here and saying Punta Gorda got what it deserved because Bush opposes the will of Allah.
Orange County is in the state of emergency. 45 mph wind currently.
The damage and casualty reports coming in sound ominous...St. Joseph's Hospital so badly damaged, they are removing 200 patients to hospital in Ft. Meyers...child killed when tractor-trailer is blown into passenger vehicle...many roofs off and trees over...power out to thousands, etc. etc.
Still waiting to hear from Sanibel and the other islands off the coast there.
All reported by Shep Smith at 7:30 p.m.
Anybody in Charley's path better take this darn seriously.
And if history is any guide, the reports tomorrow will be worse.
Southern Orange County is currently having brown outs.
looks like very very strong winds still.....around 90 knots on the velocity display at least.
That equals 103 mph.
And we were driving on 17 in May this year right at Haines City and Poinciana!
If ANYBODY knows DisneyWorld, it looks like the eye is going to cross I-4 and Hwy-192 right at the south entrance to Disneyland.
From what I see on the velocity display, the worst could be yet to come....though not much longer from now.
Yeah, I was watching that. They were saying the eye (100mph winds) was going to track thru Orlando and then into Casselberry and Winter Springs (oh boy).
