There is no coupla hours from the ocean in Florida. I can be in Tampa in 2 hours (or less) from the east coast. This is the price we pay every so often. If this sucker exits Daytona, I am in for a looooonnng nite! One hour south of there. No wind or rain right now.

Bathymetry plays a big part in storm surge, as well. You've got to have a lot of water available for those strong winds to blow it onshore to get storm surges of 20-25 feet.

We were talking about water temp. Warm water to a hurricane is energy,especially 90 degrees. That is a big factor as to why the charley is a cat 4 cane now.
