(Maryland Comptroller) Schaefer says illegals drain health system

Maryland Comptroller William Donald Schaefer said yesterday that illegal aliens drain health care resources -- his second recent criticism about immigration.

During a Board of Public Works meeting in Annapolis, Mr. Schaefer asked state health Secratary Nelson J. Sabatini how much the state spends on health care for illegal immigrants.

When told that the figure is about $40 million, Mr. Schaefer said: "Our own people, that is legitimate Americans, cannot get health care."

He added that it would be a "tragedy" if the country becomes billingual -- English and Spanish speaking.

The amount the state spends on health care for illegal aliens could be closer to $100 million, said Delegate Pat McDonough, Baltimore County Republican.

Surprise, suprise... this is not new news. Every right thinking, tax paying American knows this is the truth. Check any emergency room... But what I find interesting in this article, is that they don't stick with the subject at hand but their approach is change the subject and attack the choice of words he used. Good grief.

Los Angeles County was calculated to be spending $340 million per year for health care for illegals a couple of years ago. That figure has since gone up.

Willy Don is way too old to serve in California. He'd probably have as much trouble pronouncing it as Arnold does.

I saw him recently in WalMart. He looked kinda lost, being out among the citizenry. I think he might be like one of those old cons you hear about, can't make it on the outside.

Even so, some of these old dinosaur democrats can be entertaining. They've been around since the party had a few scruples, and they remember some of them.

Schaefer could have gotten this figured out about a decade ago.
IIRC, radio-g-d Paul Harvey reported that the reason for the delay in the release
of the plan for "Hillary Care" was...
Hillary played and played and played with the numbers...realizing there was
no way for her (even the most brilliant woman who ever has lived) to get the
system to stay solvent if illegals got health-care.

Delegate Victor R. Ramirez, a Prince George's Democrat, called Mr. Schaefer's comments "inappropriate" and said, "I respect him as a politician, but I think the statements were way out of line." Roberto Allen, president of the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, agreed. "It just seems like it's a counterproductive kind of commentary," he said.

A true statement from somebody/anybody always receives this kind of response from liberals.

As an aside my daughter had her first child last week. She was in a 2 person room and her roommate was a Spanish speaking women. Every time I visited the room they had the curtains closed and only spoke Spanish. I was there when the nurse came in to explain the process of taking their baby home. She spoke only English and they responded fine.

The thing that really gets my goat is she told them that in order to take the baby home they would have to have an approved car seat for the baby. They said they did and she said OK we don't have to see it as long as you say you do that will do.

Then when my daughter was leaving they came out to my son-in-laws car to make sure that they had an approved car seat.
