Duh. A lousy germ warfare virus. Mainly kills the elderly, and only a small number of deaths. Unless, of course, you are talking about crows. Lots of them die.
Let's get serious. Most cases of WNV have no symptoms, or few symptoms. It started in NYC. Lots of Arabs/Egyptians/Iraqis/Iranians/etc. in NYC.
Someone flew over with a mild case of WNV, got bitten by a New York Mosquito, and bingo, epidemic.

I attended a Chemical and Biological Terrorism Conference in the late '90s that presented the migratory bird carrier theory. WNV was one theory discussed as a possibility.
The presenters were from FEMA, Ohio EMA, U.S. Army Reserves and the FBI.
Excuse me for my ignorance, but 'we' are told by the CDC that viruses can't be spread by mosquitoes - only bacterial type infections/illnesses (IIRC). That's why we shouldn't worry about HIV being spread that way.
Personally I feel they're full of ... and HIV darn well can be spread by mosquitoes and they know it. If one virus can be spread by mosquitoes, they all can be. However, if it was reported that HIV could be spread that way there'd be wholesale panic. Not to mention a rash of 'hate crimes'.
BTW, aren't Yellow Fever and Malaria viral diseases spread by mosquitoes???
