Read: James 1:21-27
Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only. James 1:22
Bible In One Year: Psalms 77-78; Romans 10
A church member told his pastor that he was going to the Holy Land. He said that it was his intention to visit Mount Sinai. "In fact," he told the minister, "I plan to climb to the top of that mountain, and read the Ten Commandments aloud when I get there."
Thinking this would please the pastor, he was surprised to hear, "You know, I can think of something even better than that." The man responded, "You can, Pastor? And what might that be?"
He replied rather bluntly, "Instead of traveling thousands of miles to read the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, why not stay right here at home and keep them?"
God wants us to read His Word, of course. But more important, He wants us to obey it. So, as we open the Bible each day, we should pray not only for illumination to understand it but also for a willingness to obey it. Hearing and doing must go hand-in-hand (James 1:22).
When Saul heard Jesus speaking to him on the road to Damascus, he asked, "Lord, what do You want me to do?" (Acts 9:6). That's a good question for us to ask whenever we read the Bible or hear it read.
Let's be "doers of the Word." Richard De Haan

ping
Beautiful graphics to start the week.
I'm so far behind on pings, I'll never get caught up. Spent the last 2 hours catching up on the Swifties.
Salute to these Men of Honor!
Good Military Monday, Mayor!
I missed 'seeing' you all this past weekend. Hubby was on call so had to keep offline 'cause of my antiquated one line dial-up.
I spent this morning catching up on the Finest's weekend thread while drinking my first cup of coffee.
I had to giggle at the exchange between Texasgirl and LadyX. Roaring bionic women! Hahaha
Seriously, I hope you are getting better and better, Texgal, and I'm praying for your swift recovery.
LadyMaggie, wasn't this past weekend's weather wonderful? We, too, had all our windows open letting in the fresh air. They are still open this morning but it's supposed to get a bit hot by this afternoon so I'll sadly close my windows and turn on the a.c. :-( I do so love to hear the birds and duck calls from open screened doors overlooking the lake. But it will soon be Autumn when cooler temps and low humidity will stay awhile.
Everyone, i hope you all have a great Military Monday. Thanks, Mayor, for yet another very good tribute to our military. Love all ya'll! ((( Hugs all around )))
GOOD MORNING EVERYBODY!

Brought this over from Amys thread..
Some enlisted guys stopped by our Bush table on Saturday near Madison Square Garden and bought a bunch of stuff. All the "Support the Troops" buttons were sold out, so it became my privilege to give mine away (beautiful multicolored one bought at a souvenir shop on Fifth Avenue). They were so wonderful. Very young. Tough tough tough but with hearts of gold.
