I had the pleasure of working closely with the 501st PIR last summer before they deployed. A greater bunch of professionals you will not find. One of their soldiers suffered a heat stroke here in Kentucky. He remained behind in the hospital in Louisville when the rest of the battalion left for Alaska. The unit paid the TDY expenses for two men to remain behind with him and his family until he had recovered and could fly back to Alaska. The unit also paid the expenses borne by the soldier's family to be near him. A bunch of greater men you will not find. Probably the most caring chain-of-command in the Army.
