There is one critical aspect of four or five-year old data that the media has completely missed:

Plans change.

Targets change.

Timelines change.

So, the relevancy of the intelligence may be irrelevant for the specific event mentioned therein, but the fact that PLANNING was initiated, developed, and (quite likely) completed, should be evidence enough that the design is in play.

We're protecting targets mentioned in the intelligence. We should be at a nationwide "ORANGE" for the mere fact that there is absolutely ZERO evidence that these were the only targets, these were the only plans. Was intelligence being developed on the West Coast? Houston? Miami?

We don't know. To limit the security upgrades to NY, NJ, and D.C. is like taking the bait...

Now, there must be some reason for the timing of this alert. There's no political gain to be had by issuing bogus warnings. NONE.

In reading the 9/11 report, Tenet declared that the lights were all blinking "red" prior to 9/11. There was so much overwhelming evidence of a looming attack (either dom. or overseas) that it was wearing agents down psychologically. They didn't know when, or how. They had an idea of planes, but not as weapons. The so-called "wall" between intelligence agencies made it nearly impossible to share information and come up with a concise scenario. Intelligence was expecting either foreign terrorists in foreign countries or domestic terrorists (likely of Arab origin) striking in the U.S. They didn't consider that it would be foreign terrorist striking in the U.S. They couldn't. They couldn't pool information or gain access to domestic intelligence without a battery of lawyers to sign off on it.

I take these warnings seriously. A successful war on terror is one in which there is no evidence of terror to the public. These hard-working individuals in DHS and the alphabets are doing a job for which they will never receive any credit for succeeding in. They are only guaranteed the stigma of "failure" when the inevitable attack occurs...
