Sandy Berger Two Times (Mentions FreeRepublic) Camera Cell Phones

Sandy Berger Times Two
by Sandy Berger

Last week I started getting some unusual e-mail with questions about cell phones cameras. My e-mail also included an abnormal number of politically oriented questions. After further investigation, it turns out that all of this was related to a recent political event.

It seems that Sandy Berger, Bill Clinton's national security adviser, was recently forced to quit his job as John Kerry’s adviser. He is now under federal investigation for taking notes and classified documents from the National Archives.

Berger was recently at the National Archives reading through highly classified terrorism documents related to the 9-11 commission. It has been reported that Berger asked to be left alone several times during his reading sessions to make personal phone calls on his cell phone. It occurred to many people that if Berger’s cell phone was equipped with a camera he could have used it to take pictures of classified information. After this announcement, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people started searching the Internet using the search terms such as, “Sandy Berger, camera cell phone”. The search results led them onto an article that I had written about the popularity of cell phones with cameras. In the article I wrote about the problems associated with these phones, including how easy these devices make it to steal information. Before long, a link to my article was posted on GoGov.com. My picture was posted right under the other Sandy Berger’s picture. People on several message boards picked up on my article and suddenly began discussing both Sandy Berger’s and camera phones. I loved the comment made by a visitor on the FreeRepublic.com message boards: “ I thought this was going to be blockbuster until I discovered that this Sandy Berger is a chick.”

The Sandy Berger situation brought to my attention the fact that today’s common tech devices today can be used in a way that until recently was available only to the FBI, KGB, CIA, and Maxwell Smart. Technology has given the every-day person the ability to easily spy on people and steal information.

My article that is posted on the Compu-KISS Web site at www.compukiss.com/populartopics/tech_gadgetshtm/article1199.htm, stated “As with most new technologies, there is also a downside to camera cell phones. Some critics are calling them a privacy menace as they are being used in bathrooms, locker rooms, and gyms. Art museums, and others, who ban photography are having trouble controlling the use of camera phones. Bookstores are struggling to crack down on the digital shoplifting that occurs when patrons photograph pages of books and magazines without paying for them. The speedy transmission of telephone photos enables confidential information to be stolen and immediately transmitted to an outside source.”

Yes, we are living in a world where every person has access to inexpensive technology that can be used for bad as well as good. Oh, and there is one more amazing thing about this story, it shows how the vastness and power of the Internet could bring, if only for a short time, the worlds of the two vastly different Sandy Berger’s together.

By the way, he’s Samuel and I am Sandra. Also, if you happen upon the headline that says, “Sandy Berger to pose for Playboy – Proof that he has nothing to hide” let me assure you that they are referring to the other Sandy Berger.

Well cell phones generally don't work in tunnels, and office buildings. These rooms are shielded specifically to prevent electronic easedropping from sophisticated devices so I would believe and ordinary cell phone would not circumvent such precautions.

However, it is true that nothing can be taken for granted after 8 years of Clintonian sabotage.

Perhaps in the U.S. this is true with the standard issue low watt phones and lousy cell infrastructer.

Would you like me to give you a ring from the tunnel under the Hong Kong harbor or from inside the elevator of my building? Signal at 5 bars.

I know the yakkers hand up when the subway train goes into the tunnel and don't resume until they get out of it. But ne'er the less these rooms are shielded. Even your Super Phone wouldn't work there.

You are absolutely right, NO CELL PHONES should be allowed into any government facility that handles classified documents, PERIOD.

Bump to read more when my blood pressure falls a little.

REALLY! Is Sandy so much above the law? And what kind of 'Archivists' are we employing now-a-days?

Lately I've been so upset that I can't remember whether I'm using my mouse or my touchpad! Maybe I should have taken up my son's offer to get me a mouse for my new laptop/notebook! I feel a dean-scream coming on!

Even your Super Phone wouldn't work there.

It's not a super phone. Just a regular Nokia.

Now if you would, tell me a few things:
1). How are you so sure that the building at the National Archives is shielded to prevent cell phone calls?
2. What do you make of the report that Sandy Berger diverted the attention of the Archive employees by telling them he had to make a sensitive phone call?
3). If it is as you say, don't you think they would know he would not be able to make a call? 4). Does a camera cell phone take pictures without having to transmit them?
5). Are you by any chance Sandy Berger? You seem awfully quick to come up with explanations as to why it could not be possible to take pictures with a camera cell phone or to make a call from the Archive building.
6). The question remains unanswered as to what type of phone Sandy Berger took into the building with him. Just what kind of a phone do you have?

They don't work well in a TEMPEST room, but in your average "controlled area" what is to prevent a cell from operating? You must turn them in on entry, and it's an honor system since phones are smaller than handguns now.

There are a laundry list of procedures to be followed to allow someone access to classified docs. Berger was required to be familiar with them. It's not an option. The procedures were clearly not followed. Berger can NOT plead ignorance or inadvertance.

Those are the same phones which do not work in the subway or office buildings in Chicago.

Secure rooms are shielded in general thus I would suspect this to be the case for this one. This issue has not been discussed by any of the media stories I have seen but certainly reporters should not drag themselves away from the Kobe/Peterson/Hacking stories for something so unimportant as national security to find out answers to questions like this.

Sounds to me like he was taking pictures with the phone for download later. Staff had apparently been warned and were allowing him to hang himself.

See above.

I believe they can save pictures for later download.

What a stupid question. You think two weeks is "awfully quick" to come up with doubts about a c.p. capability within concrete structures? You must hang out with some awfully slow people.

I do not have a cell phone or any desire for one.

The stupid question was an attempt at humor. I did not mean to offend. Enjoyed your reply.

whata does it say about the employees at the archives that they allowed Berger to convince them to leave the room so he could use his phone. (taking pictures, I wonder)

There was a complete breakdown of process. There is NO excuse.

Sandy outweighs me by 75 lbs. I would estimate and is not nearly as handsome.

SANDY BERGER TO POSE FOR PLAYBOY--WILL SHOW HE HAS NOTHING TO HIDE

SPECIAL TO FR (Copyrighted. Use with permission only)

Posted on 07/24/2004 6:20:48 AM PDT by Liz

Hoping to resurrect his government career, and bowing to liberal concerns that he may have compormised his "perfect" image, Sandy Berger announced, at a joint press conference with Hugh Hefner, that he will pose nude for Playboy's November issue.

"Sandy needs to show he has nothing to hide, " Hefner said.

"This is the only way I can show my national security credentials are still intact, " Berger said. "I am deeply appreciative to Hugh and the entire staff at Playboy for giving me the opportunity to show readers what I'm made of," Berger added.

The timing of the Berger unveiling in the November issue is to take advantage of the presidential election Playboy officals said.

"We think Sandy in the altogether draped with flag bunting will show how patriotic he is, " the Playboy added.

Still to be worked out are the venues for the stripped-down Berger photos.

Plans to use the National Archives secure rooms are being considered with Berger posed on the self-same table where he stole security documents.

"One photographer wants to have Top Secret stamped all over Sandy's body to underscore the seriousness of the photo shoot," Hefner said after being roused from his hourly sexual interlude.

"The prolific use of socks is also planned. After all Sandy made the bigtime stiffing---oops I mean stuffing-- top secret documents into his socks," he added.

Berger said he agred to do the photo shoot as long as safe sex was emphasized and phone numbers of all Planned Paretnhood abortion clinics were featured in the story.

"After all, safe sex is more important than a safe America," Berger said.
