Dems Con African-Americans With GOP Message

NewsMax.com's Fr. Michael Reilly explains why Democrats think they can take the African-American vote for granted.

Which key Democratic voting bloc believes in overwhelming numbers that John Kerry will cut taxes - and also thinks that Democrats are pro-life and have a good record on national defense and terrorism?

The answer: African-Americans.

A full 75 percent of black voters actually expect Democrats to lower taxes, according to an exhaustive study by Republican consultant Richard Nadler, who cites stunning support for GOP policies in a poll conducted by Kellyanne Conway following the 2002 midterm elections.

The survey shows that 69 percent of African-Americans believe that Democrats will also better "protect the rights of the unborn." And 62 percent of blacks say Democrats are "more likely to reduce terrorism by strengthening the national defense."

What accounts for such rampant misconceptions within the black community? The Wall Street Journal's Jason Riley says it's because the GOP has refused to advertise for black votes the way Democrats do.

"The Democrats coordinate a brilliant, intensive media campaign, particularly on black radio," Nadler told the Journal. "The frequency of ads [leading up to an election] is somewhere in the vicinity of four an hour during drive time. This is on urban contemporary radio stations, primarily. If you’re white, you just have no idea how potent a medium this is."

Reports the Journal:

"Democratic operatives saturate this minority media with a campaign of negativity and misinformation that would make Michael Moore blush. Republicans are cross-burners who want to put a semiautomatic in little Jamal's hands and take money away from little LaWanda's public school. For fun on weekends, Republicans drag black men to their death behind pickup trucks with Confederate flags attached to the rear bumper. Republicans want to racially profile blacks, incarcerate them in high numbers and disenfranchise as many as possible. And so on."

Meanwhile, the GOP expends almost no effort advertising in this market.

While it would be foolish for Republicans to spend valuable campaign dollars in a state like Massachusetts, whose 13 electoral votes are sure to move into the Kerry column, intelligent advertising in black-oriented media can only increase the abysmal 9 percent of the black vote Bush received in 2000.

While more blacks graduate from college, own stocks and homes, and earn better incomes today than ever before, the GOP's main appeal to African-Americans consists of spotlighting Bush administration members like Condi Rice and Colin Powell. But that's not likely to overcome generations of negative advertising effectively deployed by Democrats.

"What it boils down to is that Republicans don’t have the guts to run the kind of hard-hitting program attacking Democrats on Democratic turf," concludes Nadler.

Meanwhile, record numbers of blacks support Democrats they view as pro-lifers who want to bolster national defense and reduce taxes.

I'm sorry, but they cannot be THAT ignorant of the facts! Can they? Anybody that reads a newspaper or listens even to the media whores would know that the democrats are FOR:

1 ... Murder of innocent Babies
2 ... Raising taxes on all BUT for "old money" (kerry, kennedy, rockerfeller, bush, etc) Republicans want to lower taxes for all (but NOT tax old money - same list of names!)
3 ... Dismantling the USA and making it a suburb of paris.

before the flames or questions on #2 - IF taxes were to be fair, it would be on EXPEDITURE not on income! The ultra-rich families do not have income as you or I, so they pay very minimal tax, if any. A sales tax will simply tax all expenditures - period!

Reminds me of this attitude from Paul Krugman:

Krugman wrote that, “Viewers may come away from Moore’s movie believing some things that probably aren’t true,” and that he “uses association and innuendo to create false impressions.” Try to imagine those phrases on a marquee. But that is his rave review! He lauds “Fahrenheit 9/11” for its “appeal to working-class Americans.” Do we really want to believe that only innuendo, untruths, and conspiracy theories can reach working-class Americans?

"Working-class Americans" equals minorities in elitist liberal-speak

Tax something, you get less of it - replace income tax with sales tax and watch the economy grind to a screeching halt.

Your desire to tax spending would be double taxation on people who have been thrifty & saved more than they spent & this includes many retired people with small nest eggs. That is hardly "fair". You're playing the same class warfare game the liberals like to play.

Taxing spending is NOT double Tax - because you get rid of the INCOME tax! Your assuming that the income tax remains.

SAVING is NOT spending. But I ddi hear of one plan that would tax ALL transactions including moving money from checking to savings, or savings to checking, then checking to store, etc etc etc.

And that was supposedly a republican plan??

At some point you would be right, as you would be dealing with "new", previously untaxed dollars in people's savings. How would you handle money that someone earned, paid income taxes on & put into savings before your change was enacted? With your idea, the moment that person pulled any of that previously taxed money out of savings & spent it, they would be paying taxes on it again.

The Americans of African descent simply have not received the memo that was mailed out to practically everybody else in the country. There is a level that mediates between what is disseminated to the wider public, and the filter through which it passes as it goes into each ethnic neighborhood.

What is happening in certain of these ethnic neighborhoods is that the communication from the wider world is systematically intercepted and censored. The interceptors and censors do not come with clean hands or pure motives. The are selling something they KNOW is both inferior and ineffectual, and they describe it as something else. Promises made, and never kept.

Once an individual is informed of the real choices available, and selects one or the other, or neither, then the franchise has been exercised. But if a selection is made in ignorance, or with insinuations or outright falsehoods being used to persuade the selection of a less provident course of action, then there is an element of coercion and tyranny introduced, and the franchise is lost as surely as if no vote were permitted. The oligarchy that assumes the power of community decisions becomes less and less responsive to the concerns of the community, and nothing ever gets better.

I specifically mentioned the super-rich because most of their money is UN-taxed in the current "income" tax laws.

For example (nobody in particular)

A politician makes $100k salary but his family trust is worth $100,000,000 and his 'take' from that trust is minimum of $1,000,000 /yr to play & SPEND.

The politician gets to pay "his fair share" of $100k - the $1 Million is free and clear (usually) so he pays at the most $40k out of the $1,100,000

Take the hard working small business owner who earns $100k from his labor - He also pays $40k income tax.

Now - if we had a SALES tax set at 25% flat.
the businessman saves 10% of his money and spends $90k so his tax would be: $22.5k A lot less than the $40k

The politician spends, lets say the full $1 Million on a yatch, he gets to pay $250k in taxes.

So before the govt got $80k total - now it will get $272.5K - a hefty increase total.

Who could complain about that? Almost every lawyer, politican and judge - that is who!

I would only have a few exemptions and that is food, clothes, medicine, and shelter under a determined $$ amount.

SAVINGS are NOT TAXED under my plan.

The WSJ today had an article lamenting the GOP's lack of advertising on black media. The Rats are free to disparage the GOP, lie, etc. and do their usual without rebuttal. I am sending that article straight to Bush/Cheney.

WTF, those 75% of Black voters pay no taxes, have one parent (woman) taxpayer supported families, and like other White, Brown, Yellow, welfare leeches, of course they dislike abortion. (cuts into that democrat championed brood sow per capita income)

Blacks flock to the armed services, then overwhelmingly like other democrats, avoid all the combat arms of those services.

Your sales-tax plan sounds a lot like Alan Keyes' tax plan. I agree with you 100%. So long as we can establish a basket of goods and services that would be tax-free (such as milk, eggs, the first $10 of a pair of shoes, the first $100,000 of the price of a home, etc.), a national sales tax would not be regressive and would allow thrifty Americans to save more money than ever before.

Okay this is not to flame, only to inform.
If you listen to people that are leaders in the community tell you that this is true, you believe it. If you are told the media has a conspiracy against you, then you don't pay it any attention. So, yes you will believe this. Even Al Sharpton made the proud announcement that the democrats are the party that freed blacks.
So, herein lies the problem, an I have said this all along, there is a great divide in america between blacks (and other minorities)and whites, and we don't even know how large it is.
