Earlier this month, five Palestinian brothers were convicted in federal court of conspiring to use their Texas-based computer company to make illegal shipments of high-tech goods to Libya and Syria, two nations the State Department considers sponsors of terrorism. One of the brothers, Ghassan Elashi, the company's vice president of international marketing, was convicted of three counts of conspiracy, one count of money laundering and two counts of making false statements about the shipments. Mr. Elashi, along with two of his brothers, also faces a separate federal trial on charges relating to business dealings with Mousa Abu Marzook, the deputy political leader of the terrorist organization Hamas. Mr. Elashi is also the founding board member of a Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) chapter in Texas, according to the Dallas Morning News. In February 2003, the Muslim Legal Fund held a fund-raiser for the Elashi brothers, hoping to raise $500,000 for their defense. As the Morning News reported then, two of the Fund's board of directors had ties to CAIR.
In April, Randall Royer of Fairfax was sentenced to 20 years by a federal judge after pleading guilty to using and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and carrying an explosive during the commission of a felony, reports Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum. (Mr. Pipes has been following many of the cases here related on his Web log, www.danielpipes.org.) Royer was arrested a year ago on charges of conspiring to join the Pakistani group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which is on the State Department's list of terrorist organizations, as well as weapons charges (an AK-47-style assault rifle was found in his car along with 200 rounds of ammunition upon his arrest). Royer had been CAIR's communications director and civil-rights coordinator.

Japanese in America were interned. Many endured, some served in the military gallantly. Some unjust harm was done, but the country was protected against an unknown danger.
My parents were WWII young Americans; father landed on Okinawa while mother riveted planes in SoCal. SoCal had blackouts, to make nighttime bombing more difficult. They supported the internment.
The Japanese shelled an oilfield northwest of Los Angeles, and also the coast of Oregon. We were attacked in our "homeland" therefore, three times.
Today we take huge risks, figuring we'll just "live" with the damage should any of our resident peaceful muslims turn out to be among the bad guys.
From the start of this, I favored rounding up muslims here, for our safety.
CAIR has PROVED itself to be an agent of our enemies. Why they roam the streets and bank accounts and airwaves is beyond logic.
After any major attack, I expect civilians will begin doing what the federal government should have done in the first place. But it may not be a round-up. It may just be a round.

Right now, the average American of Iraqi, Kuwaiti and Iranian descent are highly motivated to support our country and have contributed greatly to our war effort, many of them fighting alongside our troops in various countries, giving the local populations in those countries a chance to see how far off the propaganda spewed by the mullahs and clerics was from reality.
CAIR is to American Muslims what DemocraticUnderground or Jessie Jackson's extortion rings are to he rest of us- it's a not representative of our opinions, it's just a lobbying group which the left-leaning press adores and to which it gives the appearance of legitimacy, in spite of the foulness of their messages.
Agreed. I've seen some Muslims who have made me nervous, but I consider myself a pretty good judge of people, and I've met Muslims who I could not imagine supporting terrorism any more than any other American. There are a lot of genuinely apolitical and often non-observant Muslims in this country.
Atta and Co. tried to act Western at times, but they didn't do a very good job at it: they were clearly arrogant, sexist a**holes (IOW, Islamists.)
I don't see the Turkish doctor and his wife who I met over drinks at my cousin's house (they're close friends of his), the Emirati resident assistant at my college dorm who I used to hang out and watch movies with, the Pakistani classmate I tutored in chemistry, or his attractive younger sister, as threats.
Granted, I never talked politics with them, but I knew that they did not regard me as an "infidel" or wish ill to the country they had adopted as their home, and I can't see them being represented by CAIR, let alone supporting UBL and Co.
"Muslims" who don't really believe in Islam aren't really a problem, are they? It's a bit of a red herring to say that an example "Muslim" who pretty clearly rejects central Islamic doctrines (e.g., "Dar al-Harb") is typical.
We have a big muslim problem in this country. I spent about 60 hours a week with 11 of them and learned that NONE of them can be trusted!!!!
Nope. They aren't, but there are plenty of Americans from Muslim countries, who are pretty much normal people and not a threat. They may identify as Muslim, but 80% of Americans identify as Christian, and many of those are not particularly observant either.
I hear what you're saying; lots of us have muslim acquaintances, most of whom probably are as you say "apolitical," but SOMEbody is sending wads of money through CAIR back to terrorist organizations in the Mideast.

Most of the Iraqis and other such I was acquainted with I met in grad school; I've never seen a bigger bunch of liars, cheats, and generally worthless individuals, particularly at exam time: the "honor" system means nothing to people who have no concept of what the word honor means.

You are right. My folks gave me education about WWII, from first hand life in SoCal back then.
Mom grew up here, worked on planes during the war; Dad landed in an amphib tank at Okinawa, taking is share of shrapnel.
Neither harbored a place of warmth in their hearts for things Japanese, but being adult minded, they could plainly explain it to us.
I later worked with Japanese folks, in various situations. A couple of my associates were children of internees. They weren't real happy about it, but they did understand.
Today's left have forever the minds of children, no matter how many decades they age from the 60s.
Therefore, they can't grasp that internment served both sides as well as possible, due the cruelty and evil of war. The reality as an adult mind can grasp it.
And reality is that we are in a World War of sorts, against elements of evil in islam. The degree is yet unknown.
But it is real, it is now, it is here and will continue until it is done with. Bush is an adult, and is properly leading us.
Child Kerry would have us sing Kumbaya, wishing it wasn't so. Hoping Kofi Annan could get through to the muslim world.
