GOP calls Kerry adviser 'a liar'

By James G. Lakely
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published July 16, 2004

Republicans are calling a Kerry presidential adviser who insisted the president misled the country about Iraq's nuclear weapons program "a liar" after intelligence reports released the past week showed his contentions were false.
Former diplomat Joseph C. Wilson IV caused a media splash a year ago by saying his investigation turned up no proof that Iraq tried to acquire nuclear materials from Niger.
But that contention was debunked by official intelligence reports issued by the Senate Intelligence Committee and the British government. Both reports said Iraq had tried to acquire uranium "yellowcake" for its illicit weapons program in the late 1990s, as President Bush said in his 2003 State of the Union address.
"For more than a year, Joe Wilson led Democrats to make allegations against the president that have now been proven false," said Ed Gillespie, chairman of the Republican National Committee. "Senator Kerry embraced and repeated these false charges and continues to post them on his campaign Web site."
Matthew Yglesias, an Internet journalist and Kerry supporter who gave Mr. Wilson's claims much attention, said the revelations in the intelligence reports "doesn't take any wind out" of criticism of Mr. Bush.
"The main way in which the [intelligence reports] undermines Wilson's credibility is simply by saying that he didn't play a very large role in helping the intelligence community debunk the Niger claim, it doesn't say the Niger claim was correct," he said.
"The bottom line is that American intelligence says the president shouldn't have said that," he said.
Neither Mr. Wilson nor the publisher of his book "The Politics of Truth: Inside the Lies that Led to War and Betrayed My Wife's CIA Identity," did not respond to requests for comment yesterday.

Joe Wilson is who started this "Bush Lied" crap. I think he should be brought up on charges of Sedition

The Sedition Act

The Democrats deserve to get bit on the arse:

JUNE 27, 2004 : (APPROXIMATE 1,100 TONNE DISCREPENCY BETWEEN LIBYA'S URANIUM STASH AND THE RECORDS OF ITS MAIN SUPPLIER, NIGER, ON URANIUM TRADE, ACCORDING TO IAEA ) This may have been the method being used by Libya before it agreed last December to abandon its secret nuclear programme. According to the IAEA, there are 2,600 tonnes of refined uranium ore - "yellow cake" - in Libya. However, less than 1,500 tonnes of it is accounted for in Niger records, even though Niger was Libya's main supplier. -- "Evidence of Niger uranium trade 'years before war'," by Mark Huband, FT, (Financial Times UK), Published: 06/27/04, Last Updated: June 27 2004 21:56, http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=FT.com/StoryFT/FullStory&c=StoryFT&cid=1087373295039&p=1012571727085

Why? If he's a Democrat isn't he being somewhat redundant by calling him a liar?

Just call him what he is....A Democrat!

I seriously doubt it. I think it was more of a formality than a precaution. Joe Wilson is a fraud, his baseless claims of wrongdoing by this administration have been a joke from day one and if anyone should consult an attorney.... it's Joe Wilson. He told enough lies under oath to make Bill Clinton look like a fibber. Joe Wilson's days in the Sun are DONE...... My guess is that he thought since his old Boss "WJC" could get away with bald face lies, he could too........ Joe Wilson is now facing the music, I hope they go after him for his criminal actions

The press has egg all over their face. They will do what they are notorious for, tightening the lids on anything that will further discredit them as watchdogs for freedom. The problem is, they are slipping into irrelevancy as lids are coming off as people use alternative sources for the truth.

Yes it does, however it is quite obvious their strategy is to overwhelm the public with lies as to make it impossible to counter such an onslaught with truth. Especially with the media bias to help them.

If this law is still on the books, it looks like there are slam-dunk cases against the publishers and editors at the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Washington Post, just for starters.

And although I am sure there would be a firestorm of invective, such prosecutions should be initiated. Free speech means that there isn't prior restraint. It does not mean that the utterers of falsehoods and slanders are immune from prosecution.

This fact needs to be brought home to these slugs and soon.

Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame should both be indicted. No doubt they lied to investigators.

Joe Wilson's actions were intended to do political harm to the President and undermine our war effort.... IMHO that makes him guilty of either a Treason or Sedition. I say let John Ashcroft decide!

This is a completely misleading title. Describing Joe Wilson as a Kerry adviser, when this whole incident has been going on.

The Demonrattlesnakes can't take the hot sun. These rattlers spit out their venom in unison as Joe Wilson declared on national T.V. that Carl Rove should be “frog-marched out of the White House in handcuffs,” for his underhanded revelations about the identity of his CIA wife, Valerie Plame. Joe Wilson lied about how he came to be sent to Niger. He denied that his wife had any role in it at all. But the Commission has uncovered a memo Plame wrote on February 12, 2002 which proves she actively promoted him for the mission. The Commission also found that he had based his accusations against the Bush Administration on documents he had never seen.

The Commission's inquiry into British intelligence conducted by Lord Butler said that while most of its prewar information was wrong, the assertions about Niger and uranium were “well founded.” This is a complete exoneration of the White House on the “16 words.” What George Bush said in the State of the Union address was absolutely true. Joe Wilson, who lied to the nation, has some explaining to do.

The sun is coming up.

Joe Wilson is a Kerry advisor. He began advising the Kerry Campaign in May of 2003.

There was a thread on FR earlier today about it. The Kerry campaign even pays for a website for Wilson.

Don't have time to find it for you, but it should be very easy to run a search for it.

You should really look it up. The timelines may surprise you.
