If Ron the son is going to speak on stem cell research, then he is covering old ground. There is a lot of stem cell research going on and President Bush is allowing money to be spent on that. BUT, if he is speaking on embryonic stem cell research, then his Dad would have opposed to this. President Bush is not supporting embryonic stem cell research. Mrs. Reagan refuses to address the GOP convention in August because of President Bush's opposition to embryonic stem cell research. Too bad, she will miss a great opportunity to support President Bush!
Ron Reagan's speech will not center around stem cell research. That we can be assured of. He was not invited to the convention because the Democrats feel as passionately about this issue as Republicans in a majority feel about abortion. It'll backfire.
I feel badly for Mrs. Reagan. I think it was clear to everyone her husband was the center of her universe. I believe people do love her because she loved our President. That doesn't mean they wish to emulate her.
They will not base their votes this fall on what Nancy Reagan or Ron Reagan promote. No more than they will base their opinion about Iraq and the war against terror on former Reagan official assessments.
