Do you think this had anything to do with trying to offset Nader defections?

mugwumps , slang term in U.S. political history for the Republicans who in 1884 deserted their party nominee, James G. Blaine, to vote for the Democratic nominee, Grover Cleveland.

EDWARDS ASKS KERRY TO STOP GRABBING HIS ASS

Public Displays of Affection ‘Distracting,’ Says Kerry’s No. 2

After a mere two days on the campaign trail, the first signs of tension between John Kerry and running mate John Edwards emerged today as Sen. Edwards requested, firmly and unequivocally, that Mr. Kerry stop grabbing his ass.

“I think Sen. Kerry has made it very clear in our joint appearances that he is happy to have me on the ticket,” Mr. Edwards told reporters. “He really doesn’t have to prove it by repeatedly grabbing my ass.”

At a campaign stop in Pennsylvania today, Mr. Edwards was in the middle of a speech when he emitted a high-pitched yelp, apparently in response to yet another unexpected display of affection from Sen. Kerry.

“Jesus, John,” a visibly annoyed Mr. Edwards said to Mr. Kerry, who merely stood behind him smiling mischievously.

In a sign that Mr. Kerry’s unwanted embraces may be taking their toll on the newly-minted vice-presidential candidate, Mr. Edwards departed from his prepared remarks, telling hs audience, “There are two Americas – one that gets to grab ass, and one that gets its ass grabbed.”

Intriguingly, a source confirmed that Mr. Kerry’s penchant for ass-grabbing was the principal reason Rep. Dick Gephardt (D-Missouri) did not make the Democratic ticket: “The whole idea of it grossed Dick out.”

Elsewhere, indicted former Enron CEO Ken Lay today announced that he would seek amnesty by applying for a position as an Iraqi insurgent.

And in Washington, Attorney General John Ashcroft told all Americans to be on the lookout for a terror suspect disguised as an obese man wearing glasses and a baseball cap, accompanied by a documentary film crew.

Once again The Oklahoman has come through with one of the best editorials I have seen to date about Kerry and Edwards. Mark Green does a great job of explaining the differences to those not in tune with just how liberal the Dems have gone.

For those people here on FR that keep repeating the RAT mantra of the two parties are alike or the "sky is falling" or the "doom and gloom" crowd or the trolls who keep trying to downplay Republican chances in November -- this article is for all of you.

We have a clear choice this November. Time for some of you one issue people who threaten to stay home because they don't like something President Bush has said or done or threaten to vote 3rd party knowing the candidate cannot win realize that this election is for the heart and soul of this Country. We cannot allow the liberal ticket of Kerry/Edwards to win in November.

This mantra of teaching us a lesson is the dumbest thing we have heard of on here -- America's future is too important to "teach anyone a lesson by voting for a 3rd party or staying home."

Suggest you naysayers read this and if you don't understand then we know who the trolls are!

My mini rant for the morning.

"Edwards' trademark "two Americas" speech plays well before red-meat Democratic audiences, but it just sounds goofy and conspiratorial to the average bear in America."

It certainly does. It's all so retro, so pinko, so 1930s.

Last weekend I was looking around at my brother-in-law's house, he's no rich guy by any means, just a young striver with a wife & two little kids. But they've got a dishwasher, a beautiful brand new refridgerator, double pane windows, a deck, a giant grill. And I thought to myself, this is luxury, we all live in pretty much luxury in this country. God Bless America! (Well, it was the 4th of July and I'd had a couple of beers, so I get a little sentimental). And as for the red-meat dems, I'm sure they are living a well-heeled life themselves and if they would even give things a moment's thought they'd realize what BS they were being told.

Kerry and Edwards seem to have forgotten that we continue to be engaged in a war with people who don't just want to take away our dishwashers and barbecue grills, they want to cut our heads off and kill our children. I don't think the rest of the country has forgotten, however. Time will tell if I'm right or wrong, but I will feel sorry for this land if those two shallow, elitist, nincompoops carry the day in November.

What an excellent editorial. I'm sorry you had to introduce a false partisanship into the thread, but that's life.

We are at war PhiKapMom. When it comes to our borders, there isn't a lick of difference between Kerry/Edwards and Bush/Cheney. Both teams advance the idea of some sort of what most people would term an amnesty, even though they deny that's what it is.

When it comes to Israel, Collin Powell and the Bush team are all too willing to criticize Israel in the interest of appearing balanced. What this creates is an atomosphere where Israel has essentially nobody backing them 100% of the time. If you criticize your ally for defending themselves, it makes it that much harder for them to do so. Note the full court press by the EU and the UN to get Israel to destroy their nuclear stockpile, and tear down the wall to prevent terrorist attacks. We make that full court press sound more rational, because we participate in the criticisms of Israel.

When it comes to overspending, outside of the additional expenses related to the War on Terrorism, there have been massive increases in the budget for the Department of Education, the very folks who are spending that money to indoctinate our children to be good little leftists, have no moral values whatsoever, even judging parents to be wrong when it comes to the issue of homosexuality vs heterosexual marriage. Other budgetary increases have been just as difficult to defend. We are NOT supposed to be the party of big-spenders. $400-$500 billion just isn't supportable.

Of course Bush/Cheney are better than Kerry/Edwards. A Kerry/Edwards presidency would be a complete disaster. That's why those who call Bush/Cheney on their shortcomings will none the less vote for them. But as conservatives, we have an obligation to voice support for sound policy over party icons.

This does not mean that we don't like Bush or Cheney. I like Bush a lot and think Cheney is fantastic. That doesn't lessen my desire to see them change certain policies.

If I didn't conduct myself this way, I'd be just as guilty as Clinton supporters who never thought it necessary to be honest about his shortcomings. Nope, I'll never go that route with any candidate.

I'm one of those who thinks our political system is basically a two-headed monster, which is why I'm thrilled with this glaringly obvious display of the differences between conservative Americans with a love of tradition and the dastardly lefties! Thank God! Maybe it will set a trend!! This election is going to make my life of exposing leftie lies SOOOOOOO easy! And the bonus is how much FUN it's going to be!! YEE HAW!

Terrific article.

Thanks for posting this.

I think the "Two Americas" schtick is most offensive... particularly coming from Kerry and Edwards, who screwed and sued their way to wealth.

(Edwards dad was the mill manager...NEVER mentioned!)

two parties are alike

In many ways they are. Reagan went to that - foreign policy, taxation, federal spending. The latter seems to be rejected by the Bush GOP. It's very unfortunate.

But everyone points out the obvious. The issue is - abortion. Always has been. Always will be. For others, it might be the war, or the pocketbook and mortgage payments. But the real divide is - abortion, or now also the sundry 'gay rights'. That's how the 'base' break, I think, for either party. That's the clear choice.

And I think, ultimately, that's also how the 'undecided', or whoever decides in each state as the marginal group, will decide.

I do think there is a terrible similarity between the two parties when it comes to federal spending. Reagan was spot on. He was absolutely right. And GOP big-spending, these days, is absolutely wrong.

The namby-pambies who always complain about the lack of contrast between Democrats and Republicans can just shut up.

Bravo!!! Anyone who doesn't get the difference between the Democrats and Republicans this year is hopeless, in my opinion. Anyone who doesn't get just how serious their vote will be this year has a death wish, in my opinion.

My tagline until the election:
A vote for Kerry-Edwards is a vote for Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Jacques Chirac, the UN, International Criminal Court, and Hollyweirdos like Michael Moore and Whoopie Goldberg.
Failure to vote, or a vote for a minority party, is a vote for Kerry-Edwards
(unless you’re a liberal/Leftist who’ll vote Nader, a minority party, or stay home).
