GG2.NET NEWS [13/07/2004] A WOMAN suicide bomber who set off a blast that killed herself and four policemen in Colombo may have been wearing a "bra bomb", a police investigator said today. The device exploded as the attacker, who appeared to be in her late twenties, was being searched by two women constables at a police station after being detained by guards of a government minister.
The two constables who escaped with injuries have said the woman had shown them her bare midriff to indicate she was not wearing an explosives-filled jacket usually worn by suicide bombers, inspector Palitha Siriwardena said.
"This points to the possibility that she was wearing a bra that had explosives in it," said Siriwardena, who is the chief inspector of the Kollupitiya police station where the blast occurred.
It would be the first case of its kind encountered by Sri Lankan police. Forensic experts were yet to make a formal report on the bombing but police said they were for the time being going on the basis that it was a bra bomb that could have been wired to go off when tampered with.
Usually suicide bomb jackets have a manual detonating device that would come down almost to waist level. No such detonating device was found on the woman who carried out the bombing last Wednesday, police said.
Tiger rebels denied involvement in the suicide bombing which the government said was intended for Hindu Religious Affairs Minister Douglas Devananda, a staunch opponent of the Tamil Tigers. The US and other diplomats here said despite the denials, the attack bore the hallmarks of the Tamil Tigers, who earlier this month commemorated 241 suicide bombers killed since 1987. Link to Article

Tim Grace 07/12/2004 CENTRAL FALLS -- After threatening a stranger with a gun in a McDonalds parking lot Sunday, police say, a man driving a white box truck led a string of patrol cars on a wild chase along Route 295 before disappearing into the night.
Officer Nelson Carreiro reported he was on duty at the corner of Broad and Cross streets when, at about 2:30 a.m., a man who gave the name Edward Bourgault approached him.
Bourgault told police hed stopped at the Broad Street McDonalds to use the bathroom when a man wearing an FBI T-shirt with a pistol sticking in his waistband walked up to him and said, "What do you got? "Get up against the wall."
Bourgault said he ran the few steps back to his car, got in and tried to pull away when his assailant, driving a white box truck with the words "air conditioning and plumbing" printed on the sides, tried to ram him.
Bourgault managed to drive out of the parking lot unharmed and the man in the truck drove away. Bourgault described his assailant as a white male with brown hair, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, in his mid-30s. Later that night, Carreiro reportedly potted a white truck turning on to Broad from High Street.
A young woman was driving and a man matching the description of Bourgaults attacker was riding in the passenger seat, police say. Carreiro reported the woman hit the gas when he tried to pull the truck over, heading north on Broad into Cumberland. She took the Mendon Road on-ramp to 295 and, with police from Central Falls and Cumberland trailing behind, sped north to the Route 1 off-ramp. Police called off the chase rather than risk pursuit through city streets. A short time later, Seekonk police reported the truck had been found abandoned in a drainage ditch.
Evidence found in the truck suggested Jessica Blazek, 18, had been the driver, police said. Police did not release Blazeks address Sunday. The truck was reportedly registered to Edward Sawyer, 33, of 3 Hidden Lane Road, Manville, Mass. Police said they tried to contact Sawyer and Blazek Sunday without success. A man who identified himself as Sawyers stepfather returned a reporters call Sunday evening. He said he and his family had just returned from a vacation and he did not know where his stepson might be. The man said he had not been contacted by police.
Now I've heard it all.........I guess you need at least a 38D for the explosives and a flat chest.
Maybe they make silicone implants out of explosives.
Hmmmmm how do you screen for this?
