Rob Reiner Named Democrat of the Year

One of Hollywoods leading political advocates Rob Reiner is being honored as Democrat of the Year by the West Hollywood Democratic Club for his outstanding contributions to Democratic Party causes.
Rob Reiner is a lifelong Democrat, said club president Donald DeLuccio. He wants to get Democrats elected and his goal is giving back to the community.
In an effort at mobilizing local interest in the upcoming presidential campaign, the liberal organization is also honoring Antonio Villaraigosa, Kerry campaign national co-chair, with the organizations Presidents Award.
The awards event in West Hollywood will be held less than a week before the upcoming coronation of Senator John F. Kerry, who will accept the Democratic nomination at the Boston convention.
Director Reiner is not only known for making legendary films like When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men and The American President box-office successes but hailed and sometimes condemned for being one of the Democrats staunchest supporters.
You come under a lot of criticism for taking a stand on issues, says Reiner, an outspoken critic of President George Bush, but youve got to do it if you feel something is right, and you are aware of speaking out and having your voice heard.
Unless you are Michael Moore who makes a living out of it, says Reiner, politics in Hollywood can mean bad business.
But bad business or not, Reiner can always be relied upon for generous financial donations. The day after former presidential challenger Howard Dean quit the race, Reiner and his wife, Michele, in a flourish of support, gave Kerry the maximum $4,000 allowed by federal law.
Ive always been a big admirer of John Kerry, said the former California campaign co-chair for Dean.
I believe that now weve seen what George Bush has done and we have to get him out of there, John Kerry is proposing the most intelligent and far-reaching vision not only for what we need to do ... in the war against terrorism, but the ways in which we have to conduct ourselves in the world.
As one of the players in Kerrys star-studded Hollywood camp including Ben Affleck and Barbra Streisand, Reiner has served as the warm-up act for Kerry at a San Jose fundraiser.
He also finished directing one of MoveOns (liberal political advocacy group) anti-Bush, 30-second ads, which is expected to be aired on television by August. The Castle Rock Entertainment principal has also long been involved with early childhood development and environmental initiatives, some of which challenged the tobacco industry.
A key example is Proposition 10, the 1998 voter-approved initiative which levied a 50-cent cigarette tax per pack to fund preschool services.
He has great politics, said State Senator Sheila Kuehl, who says she was impressed with Reiner after working with him to stop the Ahmanson Ranch development in east Ventura county.

He's rich and makes movies. Big deal...
Michael Moore and Rob Reiner: 2004 is the year of the fat a**hole.
Meathead?
What a meathead.
On the other hand fata$$ Michael Moore is probably going to be pissed that he didn't win the award for Commie-Pink Freak of the Year.
Rob Reiner has directed some good films. I try to ignore his politics.
How fitting.
O.K. Who has the picture of Reiner's shaved head duplicated over and over on a bed of shaved ice amongst fish and other meat in a butcher's case?
Please post the 'Meat-head' pics...
Those are the last words I've heard from meathead.

Reiner, CTA want property tax hike for schools
"Rob Reiner and the California Teachers Association are preparing to file a ballot measure for November, 2004 that would increase commercial property taxes by 55 percent and dedicate the money -- $4.5 billion annually -- to expanded pre-school and K-12 education. "
Even after a crushing defeat (one of the losers, Cruz Bustamante, actually ran on a platform of raising taxes by eight billion dollars), the liberal California tax-n-spenders never, ever stop.
Archie Bunker used to call Rob Reiner "Meathead." At least the correctness of that appelation hasn't changed, even as Reiner's hair (and, apparently, mind) has gone with the wind. Posted by The Daily Pundit at October 30, 2003 08:58 PM
They were going to give it to Mikey, but they didn't want to spring for that big a buffet.
I wouldn't exactly call Reiner thin.
I know, but he runs his ignorant pie-hole so much, everyone else manages to get a nibble before he dives in.
Ditto?...
They could go to any fast food restaurant 10 minutes before closing time and get the stuff that would normally go in the dumpster, Moore isn't at all picky about what he stuffs down his throat.
Which is a handy trait, for today's leftists.
