Manhattan Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell 4th is being investigated on a rape accusation for the second time in as many months, law enforcement sources said yesterday. A woman told police that after meeting Powell at a party Thursday night, they went to her West Side apartment, where he raped her at about 8:30 p.m., police officials said. After he left, she called 911.

She was examined at St. Luke's Hospital, sources said.

A high-ranking law enforcement source described the woman as "an acquaintance" of Powell's, but not a co-worker or employee.

Police sources said Powell, 42, has been questioned but not charged. ...

In May, Powell was accused of serving a 19-year-old legislative intern liquor and attacking her in a motel in the Albany suburb of Colonie.

Why are DemoRat politicians always raping women?

It does seem to be a common occurrence among people of that particular belief system, doesn't it?

He is a very suave looking fellow, non?

By the way, Adam Clayton Powell IV is his real name, he just adopted it for political purposes: In 1980, Adam Clayton Powell Diago became Adam Clayton Powell, IV....

Born Adam Clayton Powell Diago in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1962 to Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. and Yvette Diago, Powell represents much of his father's former Harlem Congressional district in the New York State Assembly. ... source.

Oops, ACP IV is NOT his real name - pardon my typo.

Some guy's blog says this:

Adam Clayton Powell IV. There are few greater pleasures in the world than watching Harlem politics. And the upcoming battle between Adam Clayton Powell, IV and ranking member on the Ways and Means Committee, Charlie Rangel, was going to be a battle of the superheavyweights. It was slated to be hotter than Sylvia's gumbo.

As the legend goes: Charlie Rangel humiliated Adam Powell's dad, the legendary Adam Clayton Powell, arguably the grandaddy of Harlem, a larger than life figure. Light-skinned, Powell passed for white, and ended up going to elite universities and moving in powerful circles. He wasa good looking man, and that helped him navigate in both the black and white worlds during the Civil Rights struggles, in Congress, representing Harlem

In his later years, alas, he became corrupt (on a Nigerian-Russian scale), carousing with busty women and whiskey instead of defending Harlem's interests in Congress during the crucial civil rights era. Rangel, it is said in legend, headed the delegation to Bimini sent to seperate Powell from the booze and chicks (party pooper!). Powell, allegedy, slapped Rangel in the face during the "impromptu intervention" and said, simply, "you do what you gotta do, baby"

And he did. In defeating Powell, which led to the great man's ruin on the cliffs of unfulfilled destiny, Rangel became the new biggest cat in the jungle in Harlem politics. Cut to a few decades later, the former great man's son, Adam Clayton Powell, IV, has come back to avenge the family name (like Andrew Cuomo, like George Bush the Younger). Powell was born of a Puerto Rican mother, and has a base in both black Harlem and the rising Latino demographic. Add the fact that he inherited his father's looks. The battle, as they say, was on like Gray Poupon

After Powell got elected to an Assembly seat, it was only a matter of time before WW III. Even Al Sharpton, angry that Rangel didn't support his presidential bid, . threatened to inject himself on the side of Powell But the rape allegations in a seedy Howard Johnson's that sufaced against Powell may have ended the dream. link.

If it's a good enough excuse for x42, I guess it'll do. BTW, I wonder if Clinton's trying to figure out how to be the first black and Puerto Rican president. If Powell the Fourth ever made it to the White House, he'd have Blubba beat on that score.

This is even more proof of the racial prejudice that continues to exist in American. Let a white democrat rape and attack a bunch of women and he gets a ten million dollar book advance. But, let a black democrat jump on some honey's bones and there's heck to pay!!

Nah. This is just another example of the conspiracy to discredit any black man who attains any power, fame, or influence. Adam was framed!

I don't know much about Adam Powell's younger days, but I know that as a congressman, he was blacker than thou, the most vociferous, black racist in America. He was Al Sharpton before there ever was an Al Sharpton. He claimed that the corruption charges against him were motivated entirely by racism. Note too that Powell was the head preacher at Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem (inherited form his dad, Adam Sr.), the largest and most influential black church in America. And in his womanizing, he was a classic example of the tradition of black preachers who "minister" to female members of their flock. And minister ... and minister (As in, Oh, Minister! Oh, Minister! Ohhh, Minister!!!)

And if you think the current owner of the name is pretty, you should have seen the father (grandfather?) Imagine Clark Gable with light brown skin. And Adam was supposedly a grand demagogue of an orator. Great pipes.

He endorsed Al Sharpton for president if I'm not mistaken.

That would be Adam IV. Tell you the truth, I can't account for four Adam Clayton Powells. I know vaguely of Adam Clayton Powell Sr., of his son, about whom I wrote in my previous post, and about the guy in question on this thread, who refers to himself as ACP IV, even though he is supposedly the son of ACP Jr.

Well, I just double-checked in my handy Encyclopedia of New York City, and the only ACPs mentioned are Sr. (1865-1953) and Jr. (1908-1972). So, unless the rape suspect is actually Jr.'s grandson, I don't know where he got the number IV from.

It was driving me crazy, so I hit the old google. ACP III & IV are brothers and cousins! Already ahead of George Foreman, ACP Jr. named one son ACP III and another son ACP IV. And ACP III named a son ACP IV.

From Wikipedia:

Powell [Jr.] married three times. His first wife was nightclub entertainer Isabelle Washington (sister of actress Fredi Washington). Powell and his second wife, Hazel Scott Powell, had a son, Adam Clayton Powell III, who is a visiting professor at the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Southern California. With his third wife, Yvette Diago Powell, Powell had a son, Adam Clayton Powell IV, who is a member of the New York State Assembly. Adam Clayton Powell III has a son, also called Adam Clayton Powell IV, who is a professor of engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. To distinguish the two Adam Clayton Powell IVs, they are known as the Hon Adam Clayton Powell IV and Professor Adam Clayton Powell IV.

(It sounds to me like brother III is old enough to be brother IV's father.)
