Appeasers Keep Raging as Minnesota Twins Stick With G.I. Joe

Sorry, loony left: The Minnesota Twins say they won't give G.I. Joe the boot.

Despite pressure from several anti-choice appeasement groups in the P.C.-crazed Minneapolis area, the team will present the action figure to 5,000 lucky children at the game Monday with the Kansas City Royals.

"We are absolutely going forward with the promotion," said Patrick Klinger, the team's vice president of marketing.

"It really is intended to pay tribute to the soldiers, those infantry people who are serving the country here and abroad. We wanted to pay tribute to the real G.I. Joes and G.I. Janes serving the country," he said.

The team has included this salute on the toy's packaging: "The Minnesota Twins salute these courageous men and women, past and present, who put their lives on the line to defend our country and assist us in times of need."

Mary Beaudoin, a leader of something that dubs itself Women Against Military Madness, raged to the St. Paul Pioneer Press: "This is hideous … a bad message to send kids. Kids need to be raised with the values of life, not killing."

Col. Denny Shields, a spokesman for the Minnesota National Guard, said, "We're sorry that a small number of Minnesotans are offended by the doll and don't see it as the tribute that it really is."

That's funny. I played with G.I. Joes, Ninja Turtles, Transformers, Nerf Guns, and similar toys all the time as a little kid, and I have yet to kill anybody. But these whiny liberals aren't making it easy for me.

G.I Joe is as American as Apple Pie And Motherhood and that is what upsets the Left.

Its funny liberals are upset about killing America's enemies abroad when they oppose efforts to stop the killing of the unborn inside our country.

Without our military, these ignorant women would not be able to protest anything. Heads would be rolling. (literally)

BUMP! Feminazis who don't realize that if it weren't for the bravery of our G.I's they would be clad in burqas today and living under virtual house arrest. They have no idea what real freedom means and no appreciation for those who give their lives to defend it.

I was just at a Twins game last Sunday (to see the Brewers, if anyone was watching the game the little Snide was on the Fox Net broadcast wearing a vintage Brewer batting helmet before the bottom of the 5th making spit bubble no less) but maybe I'll have to see this game also out of principle. Besides I could get all three of my boys G.I. Joes in the process, how cool is that.

I was at least thinking of buying a GA ticket, $6.
Even if I don't make it to the game, to show support.

These are the bags who have been protesting Honeywell Defense Systems for 30 years. Many of these women are in their 60s/70s.

The above URL is a photo of the GI Joes that carry the exact replica of the laser/rangefinder-designators my company makes, called SOFLAM which stands for Special Operations Forces Laser Acqusition Marker. (Northrop Grumman) Employees can buy it here at a 30% discount. I got two, gave one away.

Twins say G.I. Joe dolls give away not about politics

KARREN MILLS

Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Twins say they'll proceed with plans to distribute G.I. Joe action figures in honor of troops serving in combat, despite criticisms from peace groups who say the giveaway is promoting the war.

As part of the team's second annual Armed Services Appreciation Day, the Twins plan to give the G.I. Joe figures to 5,000 children at Monday night's game against the Kansas City Royals.

"It really is intended to pay tribute to the soldiers, those infantry people who are serving the country here and abroad," said Patrick Klinger, vice president of marketing. "We wanted to pay tribute to the real G.I. Joes and G.I. Janes serving the country."

Some peace groups demanded that the team abandon the giveaway plan, but Klinger said the team also received hundreds of calls of support.

Toymaker Hasbro Inc. removed the gun from the action figure, but hand grenades are still visible. The Twins will provide packs of baseball cards for children whose parents don't want them to have a G.I. Joe, Klinger said.

John Varone, a Vietnam veteran and president of the Twin Cities chapter of Veterans for Peace, criticized the promotion. "The last place we need to promote war is at our national pastime," he said.

The Twins crafted a tribute to the service men and women that appears on the back of the action figure package, noting the contributions of thousands of Minnesotans supporting the nation as active or reserve members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and National Guard. The Twins note that Guard members also serve during natural disasters and other emergencies.

"The Minnesota Twins salute these courageous men and women, past and present, who put their lives on the line to defend our country and assist us in times of need," the tribute reads.

Monday's game will be half price for current and former military personnel and their families. Before the first pitch, Gov. Tim Pawlenty will receive a flag being returned from battle by Company C, 142nd Engineer Battalion of the Minnesota Army Guard based at Camp Ripley.

"We are absolutely going forward with the promotion," Klinger added.

The FIRST place we need to honor our brave fighting Soldiers IS at our Natl. pastime and any other public place where thinking, grateful Americans gather.
