Senior investigators and analysts in the U.S. government have concluded that Iraq acted as a state sponsor of terrorism against Americans and logistically supported the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States confirming news reports that until now have emerged only in bits and pieces.
A senior government official responsible for investigating terrorism tells Insight that while Saddam Hussein may not have had details of the Sept. 11 attacks in advance, he "gave assistance for whatever al-Qaida came up with." That assistance, confirmed independently, came in a variety of ways, including financial support spun out through a complex web of financial institutions in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy and elsewhere. Long suspected of having terrorist ties to al-Qaida, they now have been linked to Iraq as well.

How can the government say with a straight face that Saddam didn't know what was going to happen?
Less than two months before 9/11/01, the state-controlled Iraqi newspaper Al-Nasiriya carried a column headlined, American, an Obsession called Osama Bin Ladin. (July 21, 2001)
In the piece, Baath Party writer Naeem Abd Muhalhal predicted that bin Laden would attack the US with the seriousness of the Bedouin of the desert about the way he will try to bomb the Pentagon after he destroys the White House.
The same state-approved column also insisted that bin Laden will strike America on the arm that is already hurting, and that the US will curse the memory of Frank Sinatra every time he hears his songs an apparent reference to the Sinatra classic, New York, New York.
And probably through the UN's corrupt Oil for Food programs.
Maybe that's why the UN is fighting so hard not to release those records.
Say it ain't so...I know Saddam and he is, at his core, a Democrat and would never support terroism...I know this because John Kerry and Teddy Kennedy and Michael Moore and Al Gore would have told me this before now... I certainly do not believe this scurrilous comment.
oh great ! The 911 commission is wrapping things up, so this & the yellow cake won't make the final report, which will make the commission & the report a totally worthless, expensive Rat infested endeavor.

Saddam's hands were dirty with the terrorist work as were his sons bloody hands. The Clinton administration had more clues and intelligence about this, as they were actively consorting with Arafat and other terrorist thugs...but the 9/11 commission failed to tie their old friend Bill and his tall tales to the facts. Saddam did give aid and comfort to al Qaeda and OBL.
This commission is an attempt to put a cap on the well that would win overwhelming American support for Bush and our war on Terror. Al Quada is the water at the bottom of the well, and Iraq and Saddam were the rock walls that supported and kept the well open.
Willie and Al agreed to look the other way to avoid doing damage to a Saudi eccentric, OBL, who was playing in the mountains but wasn't really hurting anyone. Saddam paid them lots of cash.
Now, the dems know (at least a select few, the others are just gofers) that they are responsible for 9-11, could have stopped it and took cash not to stop it. Willie is again trying to force us to focus on Monica instead of this crime. The dems are trying to force us not to look over there.
Let's keep this investigation going even if it also proves that the Saudis were involved in these meetings and facilitated the flow of cash to OBL and paid cash to Saddam to fund the front money and use his diplomats to deliver it.
Clinton is dirty on 9-11 and that is why the Commission ignores key evidence (Gorelick) and looks where the dems tell them.
Will this story show up in the establishment press? I don't know if I agree with Bush not emphasizing this because he's afraid of law suits against Iraq.
I'm thinking they're holding back for just the right moment.....it's a little soon yet for the sheeple to be paying any attention.
Ha! You are kidding, right?
Nobody seems to remember the Dan Rather interview with Sadam. When asked about 9-11 Sadam said something along the lines of he had every right to defend himself by attacking the US. He did not deny. I would like to see a linguist with a profound knowledge of Sadam's dialect parse what he said rather than a CBS translation.
I'd completely forgotten that.
I certainly that hope Zell Miller or someone makes a dramatic primetime speech condemning the 911 Commission as politically corrupt and utterly worthless and lays out how the Clinton Admin are responsible for allowing the 9-11 attacks.
Zell can 'zing' them can't he!!!!
Not only was Saddam in cahoots with AQ...but so it would seem is the American Press, the 'Rats, the UN, the French, the Germans, the Russians...not all members of these illustrious groups but enough of them and ones in high places for sure.
