I wholeheartedly agree. We have to make our opinions known. They made an unwise business decision, now we have to demonstrate to them why.
I just spent the last hour finding out which theaters in my area are showing that POS and phoned them to voice my complaints about their decisions. Said I'll never see another movie at one of their theaters again (in fact, I made a list for all-time). Those I couldn't reach by phone I wrote to via the web. One theater's manager listened politely and noted my complaint. Another listened and suggested I write to their parent company (which I did). Another said he agreed with me (confidentially) and would pass along my complaint. He also indicated that he's received other complaints. I asked him why theirs was the only local theater of that chain showing it. He said they were told to show it because the film is considered "artsy" and they show artistic films there. I asked him "like Birth of a Nation is artsy?" Just laughter.
Got to hit them in their pocketbook. I won't ever step foot in one of their theaters again. Hey, it's just business...

Big difference. That was one large company boycotted by a large group. Boycotting one theatre by one person even if done in parallel by a bunch of FReepers scattered throughout the U.S. is essentially peeing in the wind. Not saying you shouldn't do it. I would just want to hear about more effective means in addition to this that's all. A large group of people picketting a single theatre, for example, would be more effective. I'm not saying boycotts per se are not effective, just the style of boycott as originally posted.
