Nader to Kerry: Pick Edwards for vice president

6/23/2004 1:38 PM
By: Associated Press

(WASHINGTON) -- Democrat John Kerry is getting advice on his choice for vice president from an unlikely source.

In an open letter sent Wednesday, independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader urged Kerry to choose North Carolina Senator John Edwards as his running mate. Nader says Edwards has been thoroughly vetted and is committed to protecting the right of consumers to sue corporations that harm them.

Nader says Edwards has already gone through a primary campaign and has his rhythm and oratory all well-honed.

Edwards has no gravitas - he has two years experience in the Senate while spending most of his time on the campaign trail. He has no other experience other than being a trial lawyer which helps him raise money but is no substitute for experience necessary to serve as a VP while the country is at war on terror. It's really embarassing for Kerry that the DemoncRAT bench is so, so, so weak and the desperation trying to get McCain really highlights how weak the DemoncRAT ticket will be.

Edwards was getting cheeky, planting all sorts of stories in the media about his broad support and such.

Then McAuliffe piped in.

Remember, Kerry had a meeting with Edwards yesterday...

Still gives hope to my Wes Clark prediction...

Add 'angry' to that list of what Edwards is feeling right now.

or selected a woman. any Dem woman.

I don't think dems are anxious to do a repeat of Geraldine Ferraro. Besides, Kerry already brings a feminine side to the ticket.

well, humor aside, one of the reasons Edwards may be selected is that his "pretty boy" status appeals to swing independent women - a key voting block. But given that, I don't see why Kerry doesn't go out and select a woman for the ticket then. He would get alot more media coverage for that, and still accomplish the same thing appealing to the independent women demographic.

Edwards was elected to the Senate in 1998, not 2002. Though his total "on job" time is probably less than 2 years.

While I don't think Kerry can win, I really don't think Kerry/Edwards(I'm a wealthy trial lawyer) would win.

Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry was in the Bay Area Wednesday for two days of fundraising activities in San Francisco and San Jose.

On his last fundraising trip to Northern California in March, Kerry raised $3 million. But this will be the Massachusetts senator's last appearance in the Bay Area before the Democratic National Convention at the end of July.

Wednesday morning, Kerry was attending a breakfast at the Saint Francis Hotel in San Francisco. Later, he was set to meet with the Service Employees International Union at Moscone Center West during the group's convention. At 6pm Wednesday, Kerry will be at the Tech Museum in San Jose for a fundraiser that costs at least $500 per person.

If he gets real desperate he might drag out the beast from Arkansas.

If he does, I'm going to take out an insurance policy on him. Thats a sure road to Arkanside.

Kerry asked McCain again? Why doesn't he just stop this nonsense and just ask Hillary to be his VP. Because the way he's going, she's going to knock him out of the saddle at the DemonConvention

(btw, they'll be in close proximity to Salem for a few late night trips).

Ferraro was not the problem, Mondale was. for a time, the Ferraro selection helped that ticket. and the country has changed alot since 1984.

I worked on a local/county level for this guy on the Toomey campaign. The guy who told me is reliable.. only question is whether the other two guys in the "chain" are reliable.. Some of the actions of the Democraps seem to point to something big.

What I find interesting about the McCain situation is that while McCain and Bush do not see eye to eye on everything, By in large, McCain ahs supported and voted for the significant parts of the Bush agenda.

Kind of weakens the only "platform issue" Kerry has; Bush is wrong!
