Many on this site condem any type of religion persecution. To blatantly state that we don't is a lie. I am a border line athiest but I don't degrade others for their beliefs. Sounds like you are trying to start a fight where there isn't one.

Im sorry... It's just Im very concerned and feel really bad about what's going on in the world. Just last week I foun another article about the same thing going on in Sri Lanka, only it involves Muslims.

I can't believe that in the year 2004 there are people who feel that they can go out and in the name of god murder and kill innocent people and deprive them of their freedom to worship, think and say what they want. It's sad. That's why I was a little angry at first. Im sorry.

I was just wondering why not a whole lot have been condemning this sort of violent
acts by people claiming to represent Christians?

Truth is...haven't heard about it.
I suspect for most of us on the forum, the last persecution of Buddhism we've
heard of was the Taliban in Afghanistan destroying the ancient statues and perhaps
some of the Islamic attacks in Thailand (presumably on Buddhists).

As I said earlier...if Christians are doing this...they've got some
punishment coming.

I didn't read the article. I don't need to. By your comments, I know what you want.

Your friend must not know much about Free Republic. Yes, there are many Christians here and there are also many of the Jewish faith. I am sure there are other religions represented here, as well as those who are agnostic or atheist.

I cannot speak for all FReepers, but I am against all violence against innocent people. The word "tolerance" has been so abused over the past by those of you who seek to undermine the very foundations of the United States. Those who are looking for "tolerance" are most likely looking for everyone on the planet to agree with something we cannot agree with, which isn't even the real definition of tolerance. What I find amazing is that we have offered tolerance to homosexuals, Muslims, and liberals, and yet we have not been given tolerance in return. We are called hateful, bigots, and homophobic for not approving something our faith will not allow. The boiling point is approaching rapidly.

I suspect you are simply another troll looking to try and shove something in our faces. I also suspect you were not a follower of Christianity to begin with. I cannot prove it, however.

I'm not attacking Christians. I was just wondering why not enough of them have been attacking this sort of extremism going on in the world IE: Korea, certain parts of the US and Latin America, Kosovo, Russia, Ireland, South Africa ETC.

Ma'am, are there laws in Korea which prohibit physical violence against another except for reasons of self defense? Are there laws which prohibit willful destruction of another person's property?

If the government of South Korea is not doing an adequate job of protecting its citizenry through its existing civil and criminal laws, then let the South Koreans change the system from within.

I understand your passion and I sympathize with your concern. Religious persecution seems to be at an all time high...although I am more familiar with the death and destruction caused by Muslims. They seem to be everywhere doing the most damage and they seem to be the biggest threat to non-Muslims.

I'm not up to date on the Budhists persecution, although I will try and find some information.

That's why I was a little angry at first. Im sorry.

I accept your apology, now tell us more about Korea.
The last post I saw, was about a Buddhist man in Thailand being killed. There is no doubt, all can benefit from meditating on compassion.

You will find that there are many here who view Buddhism as a close second to Muslims, mainly through knowing little about it.

tet68,
I trust your observation, but I guess I must have missed the threads where that
was the case (fortunately, maybe).

Regarding Buddhism on freerepublic.com, most of the comments I've seen have ranged
from neutral to favorable...even if it's not the posters' religional "cup of tea".

During that recent attack on the Thai police installation by the soccer team
of Muslims, I got the feeling that the general observation of posters was
"the Islmaics can't even get along with Buddhists!".

About the harshest commentary on Buddhism I've seen here was some thread about
the WWII warloards of Imperial Japan being Buddhists that had "gone off the reservation".

I'm just throwing out what my feeble mind remembers seeing on the topic of Buddhism here;
I guess I missed the nasty/unfair commentary.

If you're not a lying troll, you certainly have something in your rearend concerning FReepers and/or Christians. I don't see how you can from Christ the Messiah to a pagan religion.

Anyway, have you read any of these articles? In this one your fellow Buddhists don't sound so tolerant.

Buddhist monks push to outlaw conversions to Christianity in Sri Lanka

In this next one the Islamists you seem to have kinship with are persecuting Buddhists as worse than any Christians.

Thai Buddhist shrine ransacked(Muslim rampage, beheading)

You have a lot of nerve lady.

Then why are you attacking Buddhists? How am I doing somthing wrong by posting this? If it bothers you why don't you condemn it and denounce this sort of thing? I thought Christians were supposed to be loving and gentle?

Here is the post to which you were responding, in its entirety:

Christianity is not the only religion under attack by the leftists - Any and all religions that do not bow to the power of the state, or ARE the state are marked for destruction:

Where did steplock, the person posting this message, attack Buddhism? I think you are being overly defensive.

Please understand that most of us here do not know about it.

It's the first we have heard.

Now I am NOT a Christian, but I persoanlly feel that most Christians would not do the things described in the article. The ones who are are simply wrong.

Actually, there are Buddhists in Thailand being slaughtered by the Religion of Pieces.

That's the last *I* heard about persecution of Buddhists.
