CA: Governor gets cash at record pace

He ran as an outsider in last year's recall election, promising to change a system he said was corrupted by special-interest groups.

But as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger enters his first budget-and-bill-signing season, he has raised more money than any previous California governor this early on, including predecessor Gray Davis.

Since taking office last November, Schwarzenegger has reported accepting more than $12 million in contributions - twice what Davis, a Democrat, raised in his first six months in office and about 10 times the amount fellow Republican Pete Wilson raised.

Schwarzenegger's appearances at fund-raisers for the California Republican Party and some GOP legislative candidates drew close to $5 million more, party officials say. He now counts among his large donors several who were key to Davis early in his tenure.

I'm all for improving the business environment in California... I understand that very well, thank you. Unfortunately, improving the business environment also means making California a state that a skilled workforce would like to reside. In that, he is certainly failing.

Wall Street bankers are probably more motivated to keep their profits in New York and just feed off the sweet bond deals that were shoved down California's throat. Arnold using his contributions for the people? The $15 Billion dollar bond issuance certainly did not help California nor the people... it is simply a tax... to be payed later. But it certainly helps the Bankers contributing to Arnold.

I'm still waiting for Arnold to use that big broom of his. Compared to Davis, he's increased spending, increased debt, and is taking in higher contributions from special interests. He failed to take prompt action against gay marriages, refused to support the Save187 campaign, and is promoting a leftist environmental policy developed by RFK jr that (IMO) represents the largest assault on private property rights in the history of the State.

In the meantime, the crowds cheer.

You said "I'm a strict constructionist, and I hate to see the Constitution perverted for anyone's personal agenda..." So certainly we can count on you to write the Governor and your Senator and oppose his efforts in promoting the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, right?

I fail to see how the proposed Sierra Nevada Conservatory is an issue where the constitution is being perverted, specifically. As for writing my Senator (I thought I had two), I can't imagine either Boxer of Feinstein listening to me anyways.

Thank you for your admission of ignorance. The Sierra Nevada Conservancy constitutes a regional government with power to control the use of property by permit without voter representation on its board. It is not Republican government per Article IV, Section 4 of the US Constitution and will effect uncompensated takings in violation of the 5th Amendment. It also violates the California State constitution, much the same way the Coastal Commission did.

Arnold wants it because it's a payoff to his friends in the real estate business, select developers, and mortgage bankers (artificial shortages in residential real estate increase the loan base). That's why he is raking in all that lovely money, much of it from the same people as supported Gray Davis.

Got it now?

Well, I think that's a bit of a stretch. It doesn't sound all that different from private land developments. And while it may be pursued in ignorance of the constitution, the constitution is not used as a misguided justification by a court.

That is what I was talking about. But I'm sure you know that already.

But if it does goes through, can we count on you taking it to court and challenging it on constitutional grounds that you've cited?

That's what the courts are for, and that's where it would come into play.
It would be interesting to see how that turns out.

Had you read about the issues at the link I posted (and the links included in those posts), you would certainly see that these initiatives are a socialist assault on property rights; an absolute perversion.

When I said write your Governor and Senator... regarding two CALIFORNIA bills in process, I thought it would be obvious that I was speaking about your STATE Senator. However, writing Feinstein and Boxer wouldn't hurt as they seem to stick their noses in the State's business quite often.

Why would that be obvious? When violations of the US Constitution arise, people usually write their senators and their congressman. That's not a strange assumption to make given the circumstance as you present them.

Excuse me? This is about a government agency.

And while it may be pursued in ignorance of the constitution, the constitution is not used as a misguided justification by a court.

Ignorance my butt. They intend to cash in at landowners' expense until the game is called off. There is no way the victims will ever recover the cost. It's happened that way so many times I seriously doubt it's unintentional.

But if it does goes through, can we count on you taking it to court and challenging it on constitutional grounds that you've cited?

As you know full well, it will take decades and millions to complete such a case while injustices aplenty run amok. Most of the folks who get screwed will have had their life savings effectively taken and couldn't finance such a case. As for me, I would have to have standing in the case and don't live in that area. Thus it would be impossible for me to bring it, your cynical and flippant answer notwithstanding.

That's what the courts are for, and that's where it would come into play. It would be interesting to see how that turns out.

I remind you of Campaign Finance Reform. Ignoring stupid laws while expecting the Supremes to fix it is horrible government. That you tacitly support it, especially the violation of the principle of representative governnmet itself, speaks volumes about your integrity as an American citizen.

Let's relook at what I said:

I said the Governor was promoting it. I linked to a thread addressing two bills pending in the STATE Assembly. Why would you think I meant to write your Congressmen?

I thought since you supposedly adhere to the principles in the US Constitution, that you might be concerned about those rights being attacked by our STATE Legislature and Governor. Alas, apparently I was wrong.

Wild-eyed conspiracy theories aren't going to persuade the masses to switch to your pet causes.

Arnold is already rich. He's already powerful. He's already governor.

Ergo, he doesn't *need* anybody's money. Thus, there is no motive behind your conspiracy tale.

It is entertaining, however, to watch you pop up onto *every* thread that even remotely mentions Arnold, to bash him every single time.

Have you nothing positive to say?

Yes, amazing, isn't it?! Arnold delivers on his promise to repeal drivers licenses for illegals, repeals the car tax, gets a budget into place, and has the California legislature dancing for him as if their feet were on fire...yet you can't figure out why the California masses love his positive, can-do attitude!

It's a mystery!

Follow the money. It doesn't come free. He's so deep under the influence of the NRDC it isn't funny.

Arnold is already rich. He's already powerful. He's already governor.

And his ambitions don't end there. Compared to the folks he pals around with he's small time.

Ergo, he doesn't *need* anybody's money. Thus, there is no motive behind your conspiracy tale.

BS. Even Arnold doesn't have the kind of discretionary cash that he wants to put up his own money without raising it from donors instead. That's why he headed straight to Wall Street for a $300,000 fundraiser the moment his campaign started. He didn't get rich being an altruist.

It is entertaining, however, to watch you pop up onto *every* thread that even remotely mentions Arnold, to bash him every single time.

BS again. I could do a simple search. Will you retract it if I do?

Have you nothing positive to say?

I have praised Arnold upon occasion. It is infrequent, but then, he's a liberal Statist. What are you?

Follow the money, and it's a hard act to follow. He sure as hell isn't getting his money from small business and individuals, the way Reagan did. Corporate interests like these don't put up this kind of money without expecting something. My concern is that if Arnold gets tainted (which is happening as we speak), he'll end up coloring the Republican Party with him and conservatives will get painted with that broad brush for having foolishly supported him. My thanks to Amerigomag for the source data.

It's happened that way so many times I seriously doubt it's unintentional.

So if its happened so many times in the past, then surely this issue has been reviewed by the courts.
What did they find?
Constitutional violation?

As you know full well, it will take decades and millions to complete such a case while injustices aplenty run amok.

An emergency injunction can always be sought.

That you tacitly support it, especially the violation of the principle of representative governnmet itself,

I didn't signal support for anything, tacitly or not.
I just don't currently see merit in the particular argument that you are putting forth.
Perhaps if you tried a different angle instead of hyperventilating over imaginary constitutional infringements, then I would be able to assess the situation better.

speaks volumes about your integrity as an American citizen.

I can't go around adopting everyone else's pet issues as my own. The fact that I do not immediately seize the mantle of your cause does not diminish my integrity any more than the myriad plights that you are unconcerned with diminish yours. That kind of guilt tripping is the tactic of bleeding hearts.

I am not directly or indirectly affected by this as far as I can tell right now, so I currently have no vested interest in this issue. I have integrity enough to not get involved where I don't belong.

Well, in fairness, I think Wall Street probably was OK with JFK. He made some pretty significant tax cuts. Sounds kinda like another President I know...

Funny, I think they are in different parties though. Guess that Zell Miller guy was right.

I too support Arnold. He is doing waht he said he would. The state is coming back. When the time comes Arnold will be there for Bush. I am betting California will go for Bush this time around and it will be because of Arnold and Maria. She is smart and a political ace in the hole. Yes, she's loving it, being first lady. I say more power to her. Hold off judgement till November--then you can carp all you like. I am sixth generation--my ancestor came in 1852 to dig for gold and in time started his own store in Mok Hill.

Why do you assume it means nothing to him if he works so hard to get it?

Arnold loves making deals; he loves power (it goes back to how he hated his father but that's another matter in the history of this psychopath). Arnold can't get enough adulation either, which is why his ambitions don't end with the governorship (despite what the Constitution says). $15 million in six months with three years to go is serious political money. That type of money buys the power to play kingmaker which befits his ambitions.

That's uncalled for. It's also indicative that you've lost any sense of rational objectivity.

Go home. Read a book. Take a relaxing bath. Meditate. Calm yourself.

...And come back when you've regained your objectivity.
