He says:
"...The reality is that America is of three minds, not two.
There are the far left and the far right (both distinct minorities)
and there is a non-stationary middle,
occupied by the huge majority of Americans..."

I don't see it that way at all.
I see:
a huge un-moveable left,
a huge un-moveable right,
and a teeny tiny middle
that is composed of a bunch of really stupid people
otherwise they would have made up their minds already and chosen sides.
It's even worse because it's not just the middle that is stupid, it's the left as well. We are a minority that has to depend on stupid people in the middle who can't form their own opinions.

I agree!
Yes, stupid people in the middle but I see:
30% true die-hard Liberals and Democrats
40% true die-hard Conservatives and Republicans
10% with their heads in the sand but will vote anyway
(people whose parents have always been RATs)
20% Independents and swing voters (5% of whom will vote for Nader)
This happens every election summer. Most people who don't pay all that much attention to politics don't even begin to make up their mind until after Labor Day and the debates.
Most of the polls conducted now are surveying people who will answer their phone and spend the time. This means liberals, unemployed, and others with a lot of time on their hands. This group is anything BUT the core of the electorate.
there was an article here a few days ago talking about how the core of RATS is a constant 22-24% of thier registered voters. and that the real factor in the election is the conservative base. when the pub running is staunch conservative, many pubs come out to vote. when he's a rhino (dole) nobody shows and the RAT wins. that is the best analysis i've seen on here.
if bush remains conservative and doesnt go wishy washy, i feel he will win. if he starts to slide and want to please everybody, we're screwed.
