PING your list-- this one's interesting. Someone should ask Leslie if there was a way to establish a conservancy that preserves PROPERTY RIGHTS. I think we all know the answer to that.

***
Dear Sierra Friends,

Rumors have been circulating recently regarding the two Sierra Nevada Conservancy proposals. I thought it might be helpful to clarify the current status of the issue.

This past week, I withdrew my bill (AB 1788) from its hearing in the Senate Natural Resources Committee. I did so based upon a consensus I reached with the Schwarzenegger Administration and Assemblyman John Laird shortly before the hearing.

The final details of proposal language have not yet been reached. However, we have a common working draft and conceptual agreement over the most challenging aspects of the measure.

Actual language for a proposed compromise should be forthcoming in early to mid-July. It will ultimately be amended into AB 2600, which will be carried jointly by me and Assemblyman Laird.

I know the agreement we reach will not hold every element I had hoped to include. However, based upon current commitments, I can tell you that it will contain real and meaningful voice for local communities on the conservancy board, as well as on a project-by-project level.

As I have committed from the beginning, if these elements were to be omitted, I would stand as the foremost opponent of the proposal and would ask you to join me in opposing it.

However, I remain confident of better things. I believe we can establish a conservancy that truly respects local priorities and values, to the benefit of every Sierra resident.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me or my chief of staff, Jedd Medefind, at (916) 319-2004.

Sincerely,

Tim Leslie

Assemblyman, 4th District

See post # 81. The lesser of two evils, as Leslie's chief of staff put it, was withdrawn by Leslie in favor of the greater of two evils, with prompting by the Schwarzenegger administration.

One notes that this has a higher priority than "renegotiating" the power bonds.

Well... Rural Cleansing is well on it's way due to being "Set Up And Sold Out!" (Thanks Holly Swanson, wherever you are)

These Kennedy/NRDC/EnvironMentalists are relentless, remorseless and ruthless people in their pursuit of corruption of our constitutional and inalienable rights.

If EVER there was a cause that FR should have swarmed to, this was it!!! But NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Well, I've about shot my wad in the defense of property/land rights and am thoroughly disheartened by those who should proudly enlist in this war on our Constitutional guarantees, just petering out like Leslie, or standing around spouting stuff, but not putting their heart into the constant battle when the rubber meets the road.

Instead of "Let's Roll," it's "lets don't rock the Republican Boat" or "lets make it look like we're doing something, but actually lay low" or "Good Republicans don't march and demonstrate, lest they look like peasants, or worse!"

IMHO, CA is now run by leftist dictates and the Terminator has done nothing but be a soothsayer for a bunch of swooners. Like farmfriend... I've just HAD IT!!! I really don't have anymore to offer such a bunch of losers. Everybody has their excuses and reasons and rationalizations, etc., etc.

I'm not talking about the few that have been consistent, considerate Conservatives and this isn't a "Swan Song," or anything like that. But this whole thing is just too disheartening and too inevitable, evidently. I'm just tired of fartin in a whirlwind, that's all!!!

Clearly, by dropping his bill, Mr Leslie is acknowledging Mr. Schwarzenegger's preference to work with our gay communist globalist from Santa Cruz, Mr. Laird, instead of a mere Republican with long experience of the Sierra foothills, not to mention the moral authority that comes from being an elected representative of the people who live there. Obviously, that doesn't matter much to Arnold.

Perhaps it is UN-in-tent-shun-ill upon Mr. Leslie's part, but I am not at all comforted by the tenor of his letter, nor assured that there will be any efficacy in his likely futile resistance to the inevitable screw-job to come out of Arnold's secret negotiations with our gay communist globalist from Santa Cruz, Mr. Laird.

Because these thugs are hell bent with "conserving" the Sierra (to sell those mega-mark-up executive estates), the watersheds will continue drying up from over-stocking until it finally blows up. The San Bernardino Fires last year will look like a controlled burn by comparison (which in a tragic way, it was). The starthistle and knapweed will be everywhere. The erosion will be massive. The effects will propagate all the way to the estuaries of San Francisco Bay, and thence down the coast because of damaged spawning and rearing habitat in the estuary.

Great environmental plan.

Maybe our Arndroids here at FreeRepublic can't explain why this conservancy is so very necessary to Arnold, but I can. It lets politicians and crooked bureaucrats control who gets to build and where (in return for campaign dollars), and control who gets screwed out of their land in the process (usually conservative Republicans). That's the way it has worked here in Santa Cruz County for over thirty years, which Mr. Laird knows all too well. I'm sure Arnold finds it very interesting.

Get ready for the Sustained Development apartment buildings (high-rent tenements) in Placerville and Grass Valley to house the servants for those who may live in those mansions a few weeks a year.

"Clearly, by dropping his bill, Mr Leslie is acknowledging Mr. Schwarzenegger's preference..."

The more I think about his folding, the more I realize he couldn't even draw to an inside straight! He's powerless, because he didn't get a show of support! Not from FR... NOT FROM ANYWHERE!!!

And he, like most other politicians, could not sort any good way out of this with his Governor pushing blindly for this GovernMental EnvironMentalism, unless he recieved an out-pouring of some kind of support! I couldn't support his "compromise" concept!

GovernMental EnvironMentalism is just a continuium(sp) of Communism that's more acceptable to Liberal idiots than Soviet style, murderous Communism, IMHO!!! It's even creepier IMHO!!! It's even more insidious IMHO!!! I despise what it's doing even in conservative circles!!!

I'm really PIST about what it's doing to CA and America, the state and nation I dearly have loved!!! (plus the market fell out of bed a little today, so I'm REALLY in a bad mood!)

It seems like some pressure, Leslie calls it "rumors", got him to back down from this bill, and I don't think it all came from the governor's office, I think some came from the Republican party.

Now, if by a little judicious activism (or good citizenship) we help the Republicans to understand that their candidates must stand for the Republican platform, which means preserving property rights, then maybe we can put some forward pressure on the party to shut down this awful piece of legislation.

Now is the time to really lay it on, and not back down.

Well... I'll tell ya hedgetrimmer, It gets disheartening that when Leslie was a State Senator, he represented 13 Sierran Counties all by himself, with only one vote in the State Senate. Meanwhile, LA County has 13 State Senators to out-vote the one we share with 13 other Counties.

This, of course, is made possible by another "Rural Cleansing" decision about 45 years ago in the US Supreme Court, sneeringly called "Cows Don't Vote!" So this unbalanced representation of "One Person, One Vote" in both state houses makes one know that the minute the blue county city slickers decide to place a cloud over the entire collection of private Sierran landowners in a radical social engineering law... It's all over!

That's why I instantly knew when Carry Okie, or somebody pulled that link from Arnold's campaign website over here, that these activists were gonna git the gold mine and we were gonna git the shaft! Leslie knew it too, that's probably why he hoped his move to moderate the Laird Law would wake Arnold up to the fact that Dufus Davis had already vetoed this crap for being too expensive and stupid, EVEN FOR HIM TO SIGN!!!

Even though I'm angry at Leslie for not taking a more direct stand and explaining these things to Arnold and pursuading him, I really realize that probably wouldn't have worked, either! Politics ain't bean-bag, as you know, especially when the deck was stacked against rural America years ago!!! (Yes, they shoulda impeached Earl Warren and I ain't no Bircher!)

Now that it's gotten this far, it's gonna be like climbing Everest to overcome the musclebound Governor's passion, unfortunately for Sierra-Nevada property owner's who will certainly now be only "renters!" May CA's Constitution, Article 1, Section 1, RIP!!!

Ooops! Sorry! I took your name in vain in the reply above without pingin you!!! I throw myself on the mercy of the court, for which I'm probably in contempt of when it starts getting Governor MakeBelieve's appointments.

Ok... Rush Limbaugh is right now talking about a new law being proposed in King County (Seattle) that would limit EVERYBODY to building on only 10% of their property!

It's "Open Line Friday" and someone with the time needs to call him and do exactly what you said in regard to CA and it's "Republican" Governor and leftist legislature, because it's essentially the same issue!!!

Somebody from FL just called to object to Jeb's pushing a law to keep people from growing oranges on their own property and Rush is interested since he doesn't want his local prosecuter to find out he has an orange tree on his property.
