The Daily News sinks to a new low with this editorial. Note that they didn't give Kerry's website address - which first of all also mentions Reagan's passing, second of which continues in campaign mode, and third takes a partisan shot at Bush.

Presidents always address the troops during wartime.
When Bush does this, he is politicizing the war.

Presidents always speak at the funeral of former presidents.
When Bush does this, he is politicizing the death.

Presidents always honor Americans who have been killed by our enemies.
If Bush mentions 9-11, he is politicizing that event.

Sigh.

Maybe he should just stick with discussing the economy -- and the 1 million jobs that have been created in the past 3 months!!!!

Think this is bad? Wait til Monday, when the liberals will be out in full force, attempting to explain away how millions of Americans were wrong in feeling as we do about Ronald Reagan.

The positive for President Bush isn't whats been said this week, nor whats on his website.

The positive for President Bush will be the vicious backlash in about ten days over the Democrats coming smear campaign against Reagan.

Watch and see. The Democrats tin ear is about to cause them a great deal of pain once again.

It's rather pathetic, the attempt to use the death of the former president to change the subject from Iraq, torture, and investigations into faulty intelligence.

Well, considering that the subject should be Iraq, success in infrastructure rebuilding, successful formation of an interim government, freedom of the Iraqi people, etc., I'm not surprised. It seems difficult, if not impossible, to get the press to focus on the truth in evaluating the Iraqi situation, so why not distract them?

Shalom.

Republicans, on the other hand, have used the time to pump up their candidate.

Really..? How so?

We do have a problem with the obvious attempt to conflate this with honoring the conservative ideology that Reagan championed.

Much has been said about Reagan's clear ability to unite the country and get along with politicians not sharing his conservatism. Bush, they say, does not have this ability. This is wrong.

Just as credit must be given to Gorby for responding to Reagan, credit must be given to liberal politicians of the Reagan era for their ability to honor America and its political process. Yes, there were mean spirited politicians in the 80's just as there are today (Teddy was around then as well as Byrd). However, some Democrats like O'Niell(sp?), Simon, Udall and others held America up to be a good and great country and responded to Reagan's optomism even while opposing most of the Conservative agenda.

As this editorial so clearly reflects, the divide is so sharp and angry today that no such coming together is possible. I do blame this on the Left. The vitriol of Gore's speaches and Welstone's funeral indicate that there can be no coming together should bush prevail in this election. Nor will there be any reconciliation should Kerry win. I know I don't wish to be part of a country run by the left nor do they wish to have anyone with any views which approach mine. I miss Reagan's America.

Who is we? An unsigned editorial tries to speak for us all. Please don't bother - loser.

Isn't this the City that now claims to be Gay friendly? You talk about linking up to death. OK so maybe they are the walking Dead but linking they are.

I'm guessing that the Dems, seeing what has happened, will now want to knock off Clinton so that they can have their own state funeral. Of course, they would goof it up, as they did Wellstone's.

There were a LOT of deaths that helped keep Clinton in power, and a lot of them were VERY suspicious.

It sure was handy for me personally having all those nice links to Reagan's speeches right there at W's web site. Kudos to W!

I will now formally put the "Wellstone Seal of Approval" on every lib piece of propaganda that attempts to turn Reagan's funeral into the Wellstone debacle.

They're trying to make the positive into a Republican negative. Like they do with "negative advertising" and "campaign money" that the Republicans use but the Democrats NEVER do..... right!!!!

This is the new tact .... that they're going to use... Breslin did it.. some paper in Connecticut made similar comments about the Thatcher eulogy .... prepare for the torrent of papers and networks giving us their heartfelt sadness about Reagan's funeral being turned into a "spectacle", "political rally", "stepping stool for Bush", etc....

Now that our great 40th President is almost finished with his long journey on Earth, the media that has been relatively restrained for the past few days, will be unleashing a new onslaught of attacks on the Reagan legacy as well as our current President and his policies.

Get ready for the hatred folks. They are going to come at us full-throttle as Kerry begins to lose grasp of his points in the polls.

Here is what really bothers the Left. The truth hurts. Bush does not have to say a word about Ronald Reagan. Over the last few days, the times and challenges that this nation faced when Reagan was in office have been brought forth. The parallels to today are so obvious that a child could see them. Bush is taking the same stand Mr. Reagan took to face the challenges to the civilized world.

That is what is truly bothering the Left, they only do well when people forget the truth. I look forward to the next week when the Left tries to undo the events of this week. Their best efforts will utterly fail and will only serve to show this country what small minded people they are. Like it or not, the American People loved Reagan. The left could not talk them out of it for eight years of his Presidentcy and the years that followed. They will not talk them out of it next week.

Ha! In truth, GWB has kept an extremely low profile since Reagan passed away. Tending to the business of D-Day and the G-8 summit. It wasn't until last evening that he and Laura got to really pay their respects to someone who is a role model to them.
