***Reagan Walked Out, Gorbachev Used It For Peace: Two Men Together Changed The World***
Stardate: 0605.11

Posted on 06/11/2004 6:39:58 AM PDT by The Wizard

I felt it was important, as I listened to the lies being spread about Reagan, to remind everyone of some Facts:

1. Reagan saw Gorbachev as a man he could work with

2. He Walked out of the peace talks. He left, after telling Gorbachev that America would NEVER allow the USSR to out spend them.

3. Gorbachev took the opportunity to allow the USSR to implode from it's own actions.

4. Together these actions ended the Cold War........

And the Cold war was not some idle thing that we occasionally paid attention to, as the current media would have you believe, all good luck and no hard figthing....

BS...I lived throught the cold war and it was an everyday thing..........and the world was scared of nuclear disaster over every little thing that happened.

So, let's keeep things in perspective: Reagan was indeed a great man who inspired others to be great with him.

Maybe God helped, but it wasn't luck...or good timing....or some other demeaning reason spawned by the lefties.....

Gorbachev didn't have any choice in the matter. He lost, Reagan won and the American Left will NEVER admit it.

"BS...I lived through the cold war and it was an everyday thing..........and the world was scared of nuclear disaster over every little thing that happened."

I too remember ducking under my desk every Monday at 11:00AM when a siren alert went off. Who can forget the Cuban Missle Crisis, except for those who rewrite history?

There is a solid line drawn by diametrically opposed ideologies today. This is a trying time in this country's history.

We need a strong man to lead us into a new patriotic march toward freedom. Will Bush raise to the occasion? Or will he not take this opportunity that is being presented to him today to lead us as Reagan would?

Kerry is waiting in the wings. Time is of essence!

Well said. I remember the fear of nuclear war being papable.

Since the dissolution of the USSR I have never felt that way again. Never felt that global nuclear war was near, never worried about the potential of it returning.

God bless Ronald Reagan.

"Maybe God helped, but it wasn't luck...or good timing...."

I agree with those who say that many on both sides are glossing over the divisions which were all too evident during the Reagan Presidency. (After all, I lived through it!) I disagree with those who say Reagan was divisive; rather, the grave issues were. But, the final triumph of the Reagan Presidency was that he was on the Right side of the issues.

Bzzzzzzt. No he didn't. Gorbachev was ousted by a coup while he was busily 'restructuring' communism. A task akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. If you'll recall it was Boris Yeltsin, and his supporters, who stood tall against the KGB troopers while the Soviet Army decided which way to jump. Yeltsin should not be forgotten in all this rehash.

Don't forget Gorbachev got spanked in the first free elections after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Gorbachev said that had it been anybody else but Reagan at the helm, we'd still have a cold war today. Reagan said pretty much the same thing about Gorbachev.

We are very lucky to have had two men who saw the greater scheme of things, and who had the courage to do what they did. Gorbachev paid a high price, but he has repeatedly said he does not regret anything he said or did in regards to this.

Sure... "two men together"...

Like A kicker and a football work together to achieve a field goal... In this case the football won the Nobel Prize.

If I remember correctly the Iceland sumit between Gorby and Reagan so THAT Reagan could offer Gorby to SHARE in the SDI intitiative FOR FREE. And that the U.S. would give free for nothing the plans for SDI to the Soviets to counter the Assured Destruction(MAD) senario. AND Gorby declined to support it, and Reagan left.. Reagan did not WALK OUT.. That leaves a visual that did not happen.. Why stay if the reason for meeting is met ?.. The offer was declined. Then, O.K the U.S. will do it ALONE...(was the message).
