I loved Michael's interview that was aired on H&C the other night. Seems he turned out really great and has a great faith himself. You know I never remember hearing that Reagan was religious when in the White House. I was so surprised to find out of his strong faith.

Does anyone know where I could find a copy of the statement Michael released after President Reagan's death? It was so beautiful. I apologize if it was already posted somehwere on FR. I've been swamped with Vacation Bible School and haven't had much free time lately.

TIA.

I remember the official story was that he didn't want to be a disruption. Considering there were five known assassination plots against the man in forty years, I think he probably had a point.

SWake (post 18) has it covered pretty well.
I got to hear writer Paul Kangore ("God and Ronald Reagan") say that
as Reagan got further along in politics, he was bothered that he, not the
right things, became the focus of the congregation. Hence he attended sparingly
once he became a prominent public figure in politics.
He also was somewhat repelled by politicians who exploited religiosity
for political ends.

In the interview I heard, Kangore related this story that seemed to capture the
sincerity and subtlty of Reagan's faith.

One of the members (Margaret Heckler?) of Reagan's Cabinet suggested that meetings
start with a prayer (not a common event in the history of the Executive branch).
Reagan replied "well Margaret, I always start these meetings with a prayer.".
As in a silent prayer.
