HEADLIGHTS ON IN THE DAY?
Why should you drive with your headlights on during the day? You can see just fine, right? But, can other drivers and pedestrians see you? Driving with your lights on during the day is especially effective in preventing head-on and front corner collisions by making your vehicle more easily noticed. A recent study found that driving with your headlights on during the day reduces your risk of being involved in an accident with another vehicle by 5 percent, and reduces your risk of striking a pedestrian by 9 percent! It's worth it!

BTW, any study that says having your lights on during the daytime makes you more visible is seriously flawed. All it does is cause other folk's pupils to contract, thereby making you less visible to them, and cause you to have reduced contrast at the horizon.

This has been known since WWII.

...if other drivers and pedestrians can't see my jacked up landcruiser coming from 100 yards, they're probably blind...

Mine are on automatically. Part of this, though, was a push by the various companies that manufacture headlights. By having them on whenever you drive, the lifespan of the lights is reduced, and more are needed. I recall reading somewhere that by 2002 the numbr of headlights sold were up 50% or more for that industry. But, I have no quarrel with it overall.

So when all cars have their lights on what difference will it make? There will be no differentiation, just total visual clutter.

It also increases your chance of draining your battery by a huge percentage, if you have an older car that doesn't alert you that your lights are on when you open the door.

That's why I bought a candy-apple-red car. If they can't see a bright-red Saturn coming toward 'em, they're gonna miss my headlights too - which is why I bought a car made entirely of fiberglas. (Or so my body shop seems to think.)

I don't see no reason to have your headlights on during the day unless it is raining or snowing and you have to use your windshield wipers, which btw is the law here in Tennessee.

I do agree however to have them on this Friday

If I see a car with it's headlights on, I immediately think of a funeral. It is distracting to see headlights during the daytime hours. It pulls your attention away from the cars behind and in front of you.

It is bad enough with truck drivers riding your bumper at night with the headlights reflecting off of interior objects and even worse during the day. It is a nuisance and does no good.
