ABC news said yesterday in another attempt at spin that Reagan "brought down the vaunted Soviet Union but his middle eastern record was spotty as he befriended the Afghan rebels when they were fighting the Russians." How ludicrous is that? Reagan allowed congress, through a Texas democrat named Charlie Wilson to fund half of that momentous victory (the Saudis contributed the other half), and that defeat is as much responsible for bringing down the Soviets as SDI, the rebirth of capitalism which Reagan engineered, or anything else.
"Charlie Wilson's War" is a great book.
I would love to see someone challenge the left to deny the explanation that the 16 + million jobs were not a result of monetary policy, but were jobs that had been killed under prior administrations' high tazation rate.
Reagen's deficits were simply the price of liberating Eastern Europe (and eventually, many more). This money, unlike the mega-billions spent by the liberals in the war on poverty, actually helped people.
What the Reagen deficits accomplished was simply the clearest victory in American policy since V-J Day.
Hitchens and his fellow travelers will never forgive Ronald Reagen for the conclusive ass-kicking (sorry, mom) he gave their ideologies. When you're a sophisticated intellectual and an amiable dunce kicks your ass in the largest argument in the politics of Western culture, you can never really recover your self-respect.
I heard him on Hannity radio, and he scares the crap out of me. He is a bitter little man and had a real nasty disposition when Hannity was at a large gathering and called Reich on the phone. "He made a comment like 'your so called radio program is just a Republican rally and falls under the charter of the FCC... or something like that." you could hear the semi-bureacratic threat of dropping the hammer on "talk radio" by labeling them political advertising.
Listening to him and looking at him just reminds me of the Russian communist political official in the movie "Red Dawn". THis guy is an out and out communsist with a capital C written in big red letters.
The only good thing is that he is such a weasel he will never be elected but may end up on the appointed staff of any future Democratic administration like he did under (yeah I said "under" lmao) Clinton.
