I don't think the honor was deserved. Its not like they could have named the submarine for someone who wasn't completely out of his depth in managing America's affairs in the late 70s. Oh well.

Naval submarine Jimmy Carter christened at Connecticut shipyard.
Despite the beautiful appearance, designers are baffled by the vessel's inability to propel in a forward direction.

Hey, they named a sub after him that the Navy didn't even want. What an honor.

It could have been worse. Imagine a ship named for Willie.

And this new vessel is equipped with the latest American military technology, which takes the form of evasive radar, ensuring that flotillas of aquamarine rabbits are never able to penetrate its perimeter.

Sorry, but in spite of myself, I think I feel sorry for the guy. I mean, entirely aside from whether or not he deserved it, this was a big honor for Jimmy. This was going to be his day. And as it turned out, on that very day...once again, he got overshadowed by our man Ron. Just damn.

Does that evasive radar protect against killer rabbits?

Life is funny that way. I wonder how such coincidences are arranged.

And as it turned out, on that very day...once again, he got overshadowed by our man Ron. It's just freedom's way of letting Jimmuh know where he stood in the scheme of things. Now, when the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan sets sail, that will be a day that will not be overshadowed!

Using Jimmy instead of James is an insult to the ship and the Navy. It probably shoots torpedos that swim with the dolphins.

Now to be completely fair, Jimmy Carter served honorably in the Navy. So if they want to salute his service, far be it from me to express objections.

I would be scared to death to be stationed on ANY vessel that had the name of Jimmy Carter on it. It just spells loser.
