It is not in me to post vanity topics with any frequency, but yesterday's events leave me no choice. I've no little conviction that many of you share my feelings of disappointment, frustration, and powerlessness over Judge Phyllis Hamilton's decision to block the ban on Partial Birth Abortion, saying in O'Connoresqe language that "the act poses an undue burden on a woman's right to choose an abortion." One is reminded of Marie Antoinette and her famous flippant comment in response to the plight of starving French peasants, "Let them eat cake".
It has become increasingly clear that, no matter who we vote for, abortion on demand will continue as an ugly thread in our culture.
It is therefore up to us who care passionately about this scourge on our land, those of us who see it for what it is - the most wide-reaching and insidious holocaust in history - it is up to US to eductate our fellow Americans about the TRUTH that abortion is far more than just a simple medical procedure. This, the most commonly performed surgery in the United States, has not seen television air-time as, say, new hair-removal technology might. The press and broadcast medai systematically keep Abortion within the neatly-demarcated confines of rhetoric, which helps one side while censoring the other: Given only the pro-choice argument one cannot fail to conlude, after all, "Who are we to decide what is best for a woman? It's up to you to prove the fetus is a person. YOU may believe the products of conception are a person, but you have no right to foist your views on her." (Of course, it's never asked why the aborting mother - often alone, afraid, and manipulated - has the right to foist her whims on her baby to the point of killing him, but I digress.)
My proposal and goal is this: I want every person in America to see what an abortion looks like. I want every man, woman, and child to SEE the bloody little hands and dismembered limbs of an 8-week-old fetus. I would like everyone to SEE the truth about partial birth abortion. The expression that crosses the face of those seeing such images for the first time speaks volumes about our ignorance as a people. The German people under the Third Reich were also ignorant, lest we forget.
So go visit one of those sites with the pictures:

We CANNOT rely on organizations like the National Right to Life Committee or even the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform to change minds from the top down. People have built-in defense mechanisms triggered by the sight of picket signs or demonstrations. A printout they see taped to the back of an automobile, however, will catch them by suprise. You don't even need a caption, as that will incite resentment. Just the picture alone - a high-quality, 8x11 color printout - is enough. I'm asking Jews and Christians, Protestants and Catholics, and people of all beliefs who care passionately about the wanton casual slaughter of our future to do this. We must take the lead in this and STOP RELYING ON A TOP-DOWN SOLUTION to change our fellow Americans' hearts and minds about this, the greatest injustice of our time.

I realize this is not directly related to theology but 1) this is the only pinglist I've got, 2) I've not been added to a pro-life ping list despite the request, and 3) you might find this important topic relevant.

I'm with you Lexinom. I'm a pro-life activist who has displayed large pictures of murdered babies at schools and other sites. You're exactly right. People are stunned when they see pictures of aborted babies. We have had people come to us in tears and say, simply, "I didn't know." I'm in the media. The media has no intent to let the people see what abortion really is. We must go over the heads of the media and educate the people ourselves; with God's help, and led by Him, I pray.
This page isn't registered in google yet. But it should be there soon, maybe tomorrow. We can use key words to monitor its positioning on the web and try to raise it to a higher number. As it grows, your thread becomes an inter-active rally point.
Getting people informed about what the unborn look like is a very sound plan, IMO. Many of us can print up multiple copies of images.
Do you know of additional sites besides those cited in the article?

I misunderstood you! I thought you were referring to search-weighting the sites showing the pictures in general.
Google only refreshes its search list about once a month.
(BTW places like California need this type of grassroots effort more than anywhere else.)

This is not a call to an in-your-face campaign with slogans like Hey Hey LBJ, etc. The pictures themselves speak loudly enough - and they are not shown by the mass media.
I spend time every single day - and have done so since 1988 - thinking about the babies that will die that day. We live in a land where a holocaust is taking place. We must do something about it, something constructive to end it.
As far as root causes, it sounds like you care about these, so here's a truce: You go after the root cause, we'll go after abortion. Okay? We need BOTH.

A previous posting, "No Preservatives: Abu Ghraib is the fruit our culture has spent a generation preparing," tells of some of the consequences of a moral coarsening of our culture in regard to women which I think had it's genesis in the push to kill babies. I am old enough to remember when I, as a woman, was horrified at the media acceptance of a small group of leather-clad women on their motorcycles at one of the first feminist gatherings down there in Texas, of all places. I think the place was the Astrodome. Thus, the "liberation" of women and "women's lib" began. Abortion has been it's rallying cry ever since. The consequences have been rolling in for some time now but those who incited the consequences are not feeling them..They are too old to know what it is like to suffer the physical and psychological pain of having had one or more abortions or not to have any choice about being able to stay home with one's children because of a culture which now demands two salaries for a family to survive. Anyway, in the previous article about the female role at Abu Ghraib, the following quotes are enlightening:
"The absolute worst was of a young woman holding a leash fastened to the neck of a naked and prostrate male prisoner. Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer noted: "One could not have designed a more symbolic representation of the Islamist warning about where Western freedom ultimately leads." Further down comes this quote, "There is room to criticize Mr. Rumsfeld and the Pentagon. But they are not primarily responsible for the coarsening of a culture that took place for a generation and more leading up to the unveiling of such wicked acts. Listen carefully just now. It's a bit too easy to charge all this to the account of those immediately responsible for the policies of the Iraq War. It's more to the point right now to remember who has been opening the doors to all this cultural poison in the first place." And the promotion and the forcing of the idea of abortion by the elite leadership in American has, in my mind had a great big part in the poisoning of our culture.
