WASHINGTON, DC, May. 29 (UPI) -- An investigation into the November 2001 crash of an Airbus A-300-600 in New York has found an unrelated potentially lethal design flaw, the New York Times reports.

The newspaper says the National Transportation Safety Board does not believe that problems with the rudder control system caused the crash of American Airlines Flight 287 [should be: 587]. The plane came down shortly after taking off from Kennedy International Airport en route to the Dominican Republic, killing all 260 people on the plane and five on the ground.

I have no idea how much of the plane was recovered.

You said that Al Qaeda claimed the hit.

When and where did they do this?

Circumstances provide the honest suspicions -- just as they do at any murder scene. Many a man is on the death row, due only to circumstances -- is that too part of the conspriracy mindset you speak of?

I noticed that about FR, especially whenever someone has to drag up TWA 800 and start new conspiracy theory threads. I think my first or second post here was debunking much of the TWA 800 conspiracy and several people tried to have me banned for being a troll. Needless to say I'm still here.

I didn't see it. At all.

There's no evidence that al-Qaeda had anything to do with this crash, regardless of what some operative says.

28 May 2004 - Al Qaeda lists successes since 9/11 on Global Islamic Media; Includes 2001 downing of American Airlines flight 587 that went down over Queens

In a stunning revelation to the Global Islamic Media Group this morning, Al Qaeda has revealed that they were responsible for the downing of American Airlines flight 587 over Queens in November 2001.

The article, published this morning on Global Islamic Media's Yahoogroup, lists the successes that Al Qaeda has achieved since the attack on America in September 2001. Al Qaeda has previously claimed credit for all of the other attacks on the list. The cause of the AA flight 587 crash is still listed by the FAA as accidental, with no indications of terrorism.

The following list itemizes the attacks that they are claiming:

Downing of the American Airlines plane over the Queens district of New York (City) on the 26th day of Shaban in the (Islamic) year 1422, equivalent to November 12th, 2001, killing 265 passengers as well as residents of that district.

Electrical power blockouts in the northern portions of America and the southern areas of Canada
Electrical power blackouts in Great Britain.

I think my first or second post here was debunking much of the TWA 800 conspiracy and several people tried to have me banned for being a troll.

I think there's a collective delusional mania that has affected otherwise sane posters when it comes to TWA 800. I stopped posting or reading those threads because they were pure fantasy.

Someone will dredge up one, every once in a while, with another bizarre theory to add to the already bizarre theories posted five years ago.

Things were a lot worse before Jim banned Michael Rivero four years ago.

Did you know that JFK Jr's plane was blown up by a bomb under the wing?

Yes I did. It was planted by the same person who shot down TWA 800 with a Stinger missile.

As I said, it doesn't matter what al-Qaeda says.

For instance: "Electrical power blockouts in the northern portions of America and the southern areas of Canada".

The causes of these blackouts are well known, and documented. Al-Qaeda activity is not among the causes.

BushCountry.org is not my idea of a news source.

Its headline this week posits that we are in the end times.

Kooky stuff.

I am going to say that it is reasonable to suspect they "kitchen sinked" that list -- adding plausibles and not certainities. Yet in the evaluation of circumstances, hearsay and buzz can be considered and weighted. The "list" of itself is a feather in weight.

Other circumstances add to that feather. Such as Richard Reid -- his shoebomb in the same time period is undeniable. And Padilla -- the hispanic!

Why besmirch the pilot -- who must have struggled like Atlas to save his plane?

It is happy a design flaw is discovered -- yet how serious could that flaw be for all the mega hours in flight already of that design?

The only germaine fact in this story is that the NTSB does not attribute the disaster to this design problem in any way.

The rudder/tail assembly is not at fault. If it really were then every one of the hundreds of these planes in service would have been grounded. None were.

Is it also happy that NTSB chose the first news day after the holiday to announce the discover of a rudder problem on the flight? (AlQ claimed this on the islamic website on Friday.) Is this a counter story to get out there before the AlQ story hits the "major" media? Or just the timing of the investigation? I am really not trying to start a flame war. These are honest questions I have.

Three mature, sober, productive people whom I have known for decades (one a retired FDNY) were eye-witnesses to TWA 800. They all saw the same thing at the same time from the same location. A streak of light up then an explosion. They told this to the FBI then heard nothing. I think I'll take their word for it over yours.

btw...the LI Sound is no where near the Flt 800 site.

"It is happy a design flaw is discovered"

The NTSB states, and it is cited in the article, that the discovered flaw did not contribute to the fate of the aircraft.
