Sad for the races that this was not, (at least in the 40's & 50's) and is not taught in school.

Thanks for posting this! As the author notes, it's almost shocking how little people know about American history (Grant a Revolutionary War general?!?! heavens!) and it's especially important, I think, that more be said about who the famed "Minutemen", for instance, actually were...

American soldiers and heros come in all colors, always have, always will, and it's wonderful to read a few stories about "individuals" instead of the "miscellaneous collective troops", who are, after all, made up of those "individual soldiers"! It helps people recognize it's not simply about a bunch of generals sitting around planning troop movements and battlefield maneuvers...

For the service and dedication of all of our brave soldiers, then and now, we are eternally thankful.
