Who knows ? Right now we're suffering from bad blood, but I see the patient alive and kicking.

You could be right.

Personally, I wish Sarkozy was president instead of that bald, weaselly, reflexively anti-American jerk Chirac.

It only counts when it is one of them taking credit. If a non-leftist such as GWB pledges $15B for AIDS care in Africa, although a record level, it is never what they would have done. Leftism is a disease that others have that makes you feel bad.(Hey! that looks like a new tagline :)

The tensions signalled a tough year ahead for President Mohammad Khatami, after fellow reformists lost control of the parliament in contentious February elections.

Khatami is not a "reformist". He, and many of the other so-called "reformists," are props and diversions. The pro-democracy protesters in Iran realize this and turned against Khatami and the "reformists" a year or two ago. As usual the lamestream press is clueless, when they're not actively enabling tyranny...

I like to think of it more as a virus that is hard to cordon off in the part of the body where it originated. Witness the plummeting poll numbers for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

P.S. Yup, it's new. I feel compelled to change it once every couple of days. This particular line comes from one of the funniest movies ever to star Mickey Rourke.

Sarkozy has my vote already, and I sure hope he'll run in 2007 and defeat the old had Chirac, who's nothing but a bloody disgrace for France.

The man has no principles - I guess he's not even sincerely anti-American - he's turning in the wind like a bloody girouette. In 1997 he brought France back into the military structures of NATO (or, more appropriately, halfway into it), and now he's against it. He wanted to show solidarity to the USA in 2001, and a few months after was actually less keen to sent troops to Afghanistan than the then-socialist government.

The guy is a professional flip-flopper - and, what is most insulting to me, he dares to pose as de Gaulle's heir. Man, the General was certainly no easy ally, but he knew a thing or two about alliances be sacrosanct, as he showed during the Cuba crisis. Chirac is like a speck of dirt in de Gaulle's képi, and nothing more.

We need to tell the Islamofascists to pipe down and reform militant Islam, or there won't be a need to.

That whole part of the world is so screwed up. There is the approximately 90% of Islam that is Sunni, and the approx. 10% that is Shiite, and somewhere there are also the Sufi. This adds up to over 100%, but that doesn't matter because even the Muslims don't understand it.

Iran is the only country to be Shiite led (the English spelling is so apt that's it's no wonder we can't take them seriously.) The Saudis own Mecca and Medina, and they are led by the most radical strain of Islam, Wahhabism. And the cwazy Wahhabbits hate the cwazy Shiites as heretics, so there you go.

Imagine Alice in Wonderland wearing a burka bag and you might come close to the truth. And this is why I despair of peace coming to that part of the world because they can't even stand each other, and the only things they can agree on is hating the infidel Israelis, and supporting the Palestinians, none of whom they would grant citizenship to.

Don't feel bad, we had 8 years of Clinton who wasn't even certain whom his father was. :)

Man, the General was certainly no easy ally, but he knew a thing or two about alliances be sacrosanct, as he showed during the Cuba crisis.

Churchill said that de Gaulle was the hardest ally he had to deal with in WWII and that included Stalin. But de Gaulle had a vision that he held to and was very honorable in his own way.

Yes, Churchill once said that the most heavy cross that weighed on his shoulders was the Lorraine Cross. He also joke with Roosevelt, saying de Gaulle was acting like Joan of Ark, and that he, Churchill, was looking for bishops willing to burn him.

And yet, between these two great men, there was mutual respect. De Gaulle in his memoirs says he felt compelled by the circumstances to behave like an exiled king with Churchill, because he had to go to England like a beggar with France's honor on his luggage.

On different circumstances, had those two risen to power earlier, or in easier circumstances, I think the world would have seen a Anglo-French alliance built on true friendship.

True progress in the war against muzzie terrorism will be evident when sidewalk vendors sell mullahs' shrunken heads 3 for $10 on every other street corner.

That is a business plan I could get behind.

All Iranian Muslims - including opponents of the current regime - support Iran's nuclear terrorist bomb-making program. And while internal Muslim power struggles do take place, there is never a "moderate" element in the Islamic world.

"times havent got more violent, they have just become more televised-Marilyn Manson"

im well aware everyone on FR probably hates him but despite the extremness of him,he was right there,

I don't "hate" him. He's just not someone I look up to but I do have to hand it to him for some of his views on certain issues.

Wait a second, I have Ayatollah Montazeri on speaker-phone. I'll get back to you.

Tell him I want my sheets back that he wrapped around his head.

I've heard some educated folks expound on this topic, but I like your explanation of that part of the world best.

"'Death to America' chanted again in Iran "

Now, let's suppose by some B R O A D stretch of the imagination that they did destroy us all...

all they would do then is start a war amongst themselves...probably still fighting over that Gaza strip thing.

They breed a seething hatred that understands but one thing...strength.
