Bush could set up home in California and he still wouldn't win the state.

The California electorate is comprised of idiots.

Then this may be as good as it gets!

However FREE REPUBLIC comes from Fresno!!!

Indeed we do but our local rag is an excellent example of our dilemma.

The Fresno Bee is a mainstay of the McClatchy chain which is only a heartbeat behind the LA/NY Times in an unabashed pursuit of a liberal utopia. The truth be damned. Print anything that will advance the liberal cause regardless of it's accuracy or morality.

If all we have to post on this forum is liberal spin then we are wholly dependent on the opinions/experiences of knowledgeable, creative conservatives. Well and good but if you begin to add an increasing number of moderates into the mix, who tend to add credibility to these liberal articles, then trouble is brewing even on this forum.

You can imagine how the unwashed in the general populous have their opinion shaped absent any voice of reason.

Californian's had a rare opportunity to elect a conservative Republican the next Governor of the Golden State and they failed.

That statement shows your ignorance of Ca politics. Anyone called conservative has no chance of being elected statewide here period. Dream on.

They haven't been able to(as yet) block out talk radio or the Fox News channel, which have the added benefit of not having to be able to read.

It was pretty optomistic to start a recall of a just "reelected" governor within months and actually pull it off, then replace him with any Republican. I would call that quite an accomplishment, and you only should have been here to hear the scoffing and laughing going on in the beginning. Not only that but all the major liberal news outlets fought very hard to kill the whole idea, it really was quite FUN. Now we have the most famous gov in the world, they even named a gym after him in Baghdad. Remember this is LaLa Land.

Good point but all politics are local and these shows have a national focus.

As an example here in Fresno, Harry Papas owns the local Fox broadcast outlet. Papas is a died in the wool liberal. He refuses to allow Fox's news report, tailored for nightly broadcast television, to be published in the local market. He even relegates the Sunday morning political round table, with Tony Snow, to the 6:30 a.m. broadcast slot if there's the least excuse of a programing conflict including infomercials.

In substantiation of your point the two most popular, local, talk radio programs in the Fresno market are conservative in nature. Strangely, the largest is a CBS affiliate. This presents an interesting arrangement. The hourly national news, which drips of liberal spin, is then critiqued and criticized by the talk show that follows. To date CBS has apparently allowed this insubordination because the game sells.

Yes he did show up here in 2000, once, perhaps twice at the most. He went to Florida between 7 and 11 times. Bush can be very popular when he puts in the effort. Showing up in the state puts him front and center of the state's newspapers. It just raises the awareness level of the man. In a state that is as important as California, it's almost political malfeasense not to show up here often. With a popular governor who can woo voters, it's doubly so.

I'll tell you something else. If Bush were to take a firm stand on illegal immigration, pushing fairness but firmness, he'd take about 75% of the California hispanic vote.

I wish Rove understood a few more things that he does. I think he hurts Bush in some ways, very much.

I fully supported the recall campaign effort and dumping Boy Davis. Let's not forget, however, that the recall campaign was started by a man who wanted to become the next Cal Governor himself. And Darrel Issa would have made a fine Governor. Way better then Arnie Baby. Taking advantage of Boy Davis' political slide into oblivion was a smart move. Having the cojones to choose Tom McClintock would have been a stroke of genius.

Don't underestimate Rove.

I think he understands clearly that core issues in Californians don't play well in the battle ground states.

I don't think that Rove expects to win California and he won't have his candidate queered in the moderate heartland by stances on issues that appear "insensitive and unrelated to that world".

Deporting those "hungry" for a better life and "innocent" by virtue of age, on the surface, appears a ploy of a racist Republican.

First, Issa didn't start the recall, he just helped it along with money 6 months after it started.

Secondly I likely McClintock too but face it he has no "bully pulpit" which is Arnolds key to success. Tom would just be sitting in the Governors house while the legislature continued on its merry way until the next election. It is their FEAR of Arnold motivating the changes they're willing to go along with. If they don't work with him he will work against them, that was the message from the voters, and it seems to be working so far.

A truly great governor in the finest style of his political ilk, the political opportunist.

Obviously you didn't look over the results of the vote on Rohrabacher's H.R. 3722 Tuesday afternoon. Issa voted NO.

If you aren't part of the solution then you are part of the problem and Issa would have been part of the problem if Schwarzenegger had stayed out of the recall election.

It was Issa's money that got the official recall campaign going and without it, there would have been no recall of Boy Davis.

>>>... face it [McClintock] has no "bully pulpit" which is Arnolds key to success.

You "misunderestimate" the political capabilities of Tom McClintock and are giving the pop icon status of Arnie, far to much credit. You guys lost a once in a lifetime opportunity to change California history and set your state on the right track, once in for all. I still wish you all the best.
